Was just over at one of my rent houses down the block from here, and found that people have been living in it. The back door was pried open and there were signs of more than one person having crashed out on the floor.

Half tempted to hide out in the trees 40 yards or so from the back door and launch some match pellets out of the Daisy 953 at their butts as they show up.

 Pest eradication.

Yeah, I know. I'd probably get thrown in the clink for stingin' their *sses a little. Darn.

Oh well, door needed replacing anyway.

Hide out in the woods and see who shows up.  Then, call the cops.  Sorry to hear about that--it sucks and I'm sure you feel violated.

Oh, I'm not gonna call the cops over this. I don't get them involved in my personal matters.

Only way I'd ever call them would be if there were some GREAT injustice done to me or mine and there was absolutely no way I could deal with it, and I was reasonably certain that the police could. In other words, pretty much never.  :p

Plus, they didn't do any real harm. Like I said, the door needed replacing anyway. I'd run 'em off myself, but I can't really see gettin' 'em thrown in jail for trying to escape the stormy nights we've been having. Call me an easy touch.

Sure would be fun to shoot 'em in the rear, though. Make 'em yelp. haha

I have to agree!  A good shot in the *ss might give em' the hint!  Just use and under-powered gun.  I admire your compasson given the situation.  Last winter someone was running around at night stealing gas out of people's cars(in our little town).  My girlfriends truck had its gas cap messed with and the lady across the street had woken up one night to see someone with a gas can and cyphen tube near her car.  My van wasn't touched although you can clearly see where they'd tried.

I parked down low in the bivy sack for a few nights with my Hunter Elite.  Word had spread around town about the gas thieves and they stopped before I could pop em' in the act.  I'd been fantasizing about shooting em in the ankles but never happened.

You, on the other hand- might have a little better luck!

Have fun with it- just don't put yerself in the grey-bar.

There was a story in the news a few years ago about a bowhunter taking justice into his own hands.  Anyway, when he came back from his hunt, he saw a guy trying to break into his car.  He shot a broadhead into his butt, with his thinking of only trying to cripple him until the cops showed up.  Well, the thief bled out and died, and the bowhunter went to jail for murder.  Sucks.

I would definitely use the police/sheriff. They could be homeless and mean no harm to you or your property. They may be drug users/abusers or criminals. Word could spread around that your "place is available", and more and more people may use it as a hang out etc. I don't mean to sound cruel, heartless or uncaring, but I would try to get them out ASAP. Things could go from bad to worse quickly and you don't want to be libel for anything, financially or otherwise. I would not use any type of weapon, even an underpowered pellet pistol because you could end up in jail.If you report the breaking and entering to the law, then you start a paper trail, especially for insurance and/or court proceedings.
Just my opinion.

Pulled a metal door from the shed and hinged it up to the doorway. Turned the living room light on. That'll be enough. They'll see that someone is aware of their trespass and find some other place to crash.  This is a little Oklahoma college town and we don't have trouble with crack houses and such, or at least not around this part of town. Everything's cool. Drunk indians, probably. I know that's a stereotype, but we see it a lot around here. Since I'm on the Cherokee roles myself I can say stuff like that. haha They're harmless enough.

Don't give them that chance. I applaud your stance... good natured and peace out and all, but your family doesn't need your insurance money THAT bad!

Had something like that happen to a run-down small motel near my workplace a few years ago. The squatters were living there for a year or so....and I think most of the neigbours knew about it. But nobody called the authorities because they were "harmless"....and the owners had abandoned the place. In the winter the squatters were pulling a small wagon and/or sled and picking up cardboard, paper, wood and whatever that could burn and use them for heat. They burnt the stuff in a metal barrel. And yep....one night they BURNT the whole motel down....... When the incident was on the news....our small business was shown on the video clip as they panned the motel fire.....our 5 seconds of fame. heh heh

Heck, I almost forgot to update y'all on this. Caught 'em last night, prowlin' around back tryin' to figure out what was goin' on with the light on in an empty house and checkin' the back door. I was out in my front yard with my son, and saw 'em veering off the street at an angle toward the rent house.

Four of 'em. Two boys and two girls. Guess they weren't sleepin' in there after all. Guess they were doin' you-know-what.

When I realized they were kids I ran out of the trees at 'em in the dark, wavin' my arms around and yellin' "BOOGA, BOOGA! GET OUT OF HERE!" They ain't comin' back, and I got a an excellent laugh out of it all.

     All's well that ends well,
