Non AO Scopes?????

I have seen where some hunters using and air gun do not like using and AO scope for hunting. I have often wondered about a non variable scope for just hunting.

QUESTION? Who has experience with non AO scopes with springers? Which non AO scopes would be best for air guns? What you one look for in power on a non AO scope?

As most of the ones that responded in the other thread......I would think turning the AO to average distances for hunting purposes.  Somewhere in the 25 to 35 yard distances would work.  I have two non-AO scopes on springers....a Barska 3X12-50mm on a Gamo Viper and a Bushnell Banner 3X9-40mm on a Crosman Storm XT.  Both scopes are clear at their highest magnification (I like the Banner better).......but when using 12X on the Barska.....I`ve to really align the eye correctly or the edges start to get fuzzy and abit distorted.  On lower magnification...9X....I don`t have that problem.

If I`m sniping, on a rest or branch or target shooting I would have the magnification up to 9 or more depending on the distance.   I haven`t still-hunted with my airguns yet.....but if I would/had I think a 6X magnification is more than enough....to give a wider field of view.  And I think the higher the magnification the more critical the eye alignment with a non-AO scope.

I'm glad you asked this question Gene.
I love my AO scope for target practice in the back yard at "known" distances.
It marvelous to crank it all the way to 16 and "see" where the pellet is hitting on the paper.
But out in the woods, I don't care how many times you throw up to take a shot, the critter is always at a different yard that what your AO is set at.
I hear alot talk about setting the AO to 25 or 35 yds and leaving it.
But what good is that going to do you if your shooting a gun that can take squirrels at 50 plus yds??
I like the higher magnification so I can be more precise in shot placement on my quarry.
If there is a non AO scope out there with plenty of magnification that can be adjusted to hit targets at 25 to 50 yards I'd like to know who makes it.
Hope we get some good input on this one.

Gene, if I were in the market for a Non-A/O scope for hunting, here's what I would look for.
Besides AG rated, waterproof etc. I would look for one that has no parallax issues from about 10 yds out to the max hunting range for that gun.
I can't give you specific recommendations as I went away from non-A/O's years ago.
I do have to say though that I've found a good mid-line setting on my Tech Force scopes.  I set them at 35yds on the Leapers 3-9 and 50 on the TF2-7.  On my QB57 I usually have the TF4x32 on 25 or 30yds unless I'm working in close.
