In response to the recent posts requesting information on Stoeger X50 air rifle performance, here are the results from Archer Airguns first "Gold Service" test of a customer's X50. I hope this will be of interest...

Standard "Gold Service" testing conditions: indoors, 10 shots at 10 yards range, muzzle velocity, accuracy and trigger pull tested.
- Average muzzle velocity 1,100.5 fps with 7.93 Grain Crosman Premier Light pellets.
- Standard deviation 5.38 fps.
- Muzzle energy 21.33 ft/lbs.
- Group size 0.5-in vertical, 0.75-in horizontal, CTC.
- Trigger pull weight 4lbs 0oz

My impressions are as follows:
- Muzzle velocity matches the claimed 1,200 fps with lead pellets fairly well.
- Accuracy is better than I can shoot it! Twice I put successive pellets through the same hole, but I'm not a good springer shot (not consistent enough) and my group drifted out horizontally as I shot. I'm sure the customer will do better than me!
- Dieseling was almost completely absent. Shot-to-shot consistency (Standard Deviation) was very good for a springer at 5.38 fps over 10 shots before the gun is broken-in - that's average consistency for a QB78, for example.
- Trigger pull was much lighter than expected. In fact I double-checked the reading to be sure.
- This is a BIG air rifle! I'm 6-ft 2-in tall and I had to stretch to break the barrel.
- Scope is fine and I obtained a good cheek weld against the Monte Carlo-style stock comb.
- Operation was smooth and good.
- Surprisingly comfortable to shoot for such a large air rifle.

It was a pleasure to ship such a nice air rifle to our first X50 customer!

Sounds exciting Mr. Archer. How would you describe the loudness level considering that it's muzzle velocity is very near the speed of sound, very loud or just "loud"?  Thanks.

I looked at an XS60 prototype at the SHOT Show earlier this year. It looks a nice little air rifle and the feel of it - not the looks - reminded me of an M1 carbine. I've not yet received a sample to test, so I can't comment further right now, sorry.

Great question about the sound level. I've gone back and fired another X50 and have the same impression - it's not very loud. As I don't have any acoustic measuring equipment, I can't provide a quantitative statement on this but it didn't sound any louder than the X20 I tested extensively and is possibly quieter than a .22 caliber QB78.

I hope this helps...

So what design is this rifle based on (i.e. Bam-28 etc) or is it a all new design? It kinda looks like a copy of the Hatsan Walther Falcon Hunter(from the muzzle brake) from the pics, but I could be wrong. Those velocity and standard deviation numbers are impressive. I am curious on what a .22 cal will do. They are pricey for a Chinese rifle and I wonder how much of that is because of the Stoeger name?

Nathan,

This is not a completely new design, for sure, but BAM obviously provided a lot of customization for Stoeger with these new air rifles. I don't have a parts list for the X50 yet and so I can't definitively say which model forms the basis.

As for price, these are obviously not "bargain basement" rifles. But they offer excellent performance, the scopes are pre-mounted and sighted on the guns (for most models) and there is an excellent 2-year warranty from a reputable company - Benelli USA. Packaging is good (important for shipping Internet sales) and the stocks are well designed and manufactured to be suitable for both left- and right-handed shooters. In my opinion, there's lots of value here for the money and I don't think Stoeger is trading on their name to any unreasonable extent.

Stoeger air rifles are available only in .177 caliber in the USA, although .22s are sold in other countries.

about the rifles and their warranty. Maybe Xisico is putting they're best assembly and QC into these rifles. Thats too bad that they will not be available in .22 in the US (at least for now). I hope people are not too caught up by the high velocity numbers. Some may decide to shoot light(er) weight pellets which may not be conducive to the best accuracy the guns may be capable of.
