SOCOM TACTICAL any negatives with this gun I should know about before I let my girl friend (Annie Oakley as airiscool dubbed her) buy one.
Never owned a crack barrel I’m a pump gunner.
She thinks it cool so I guess she already made up hear mind to get it.
Just wondering if there are any known problems with the socom tactical.
Thanks guys

If I were to buy a SOCOM I would go with the Elite Carbine http://www.gamousa.com/product.aspx?product=Socom Carbine Elite&productID=337 I think it's a restocked Hunter Elite which is metal to metal in the compression tube breach area witch in my opinion is a better deal than metal on plastic. But like Gene says you don't really want it if it has a plastic trigger. How you find that out for sure is the 24 dollar question.
With a up gradable trigger and a tune I think you would have a nice shooter.

I like the looks of the Socom. Gamo took it from the BSA Lightning XL design and added the adjustable comb....Smiley But would never hold a candle to a original BSA Lightning XL. I agree with you Walt on the Carbine Elite. My kind of gun..Smiley But unfortunatly that model has the plastic trigger.. Boy did Gamo screw up.. I would have bought one if it had a metal trigger and so would allot of other folks.

I left for vacation the day the socom was delivered. I never shot a crack barrel Springer before. I was completely surprised as how much it kicked and the twang of the spring.
I was only able to get off a couple of pellets before I was dragged to the car.

How are the gas piston guns?

I’m not going to be able to put up with that spring twang!
Then say it takes a couple of hundred round for it to settle down.
My full opinion will come in one or two days. As soon as I can get unpacked I’ll start putting pellets down range.

It’s only shot six pellets. If its not good to go out of the box it will be my last Gamo. Granted there always room for improvement.
But it should perform as designed right out of the box.

I hate to rain on our parade...Smiley Only the high dollar springers will shoot good out of the box. Most all Gamo's, Crosman and Chinese guns really need attention. But the ne gas rams are probably allot smoother out of the box and probably cost less than that Gamo you have...Smiley For me it is a challenge to turn a sour grape into a nice sweet cantalope...Smiley Good luck..

So what is involved in tuning? Should I shoot it for awhile first?
