Author Topic: Finally got my B19 outside the basement  (Read 413 times)

Last Sunday I finally got the little shortened B19 out of the basement and to a range.
Met some folks on another forum who shoot on the other side of my city, they invited me out.
We set up paper targets at 30 yards, coffee cans at 40, 45, 50, 60, 70, and 90 yards.
My B19 was sighted in at 10 yards in the basement. I started shooting at the 30 yard target, missed with 5 shots. I held high, missed again! So I held it low on the target.....DUH!  It was shooting 4" high at 30 yards, so it went over the target when I aimed at the center! Once I knew that, hitting inside the rings became routine. Further out, it was dead on at 45 yards, a tad low at 50 yards and a little lower still at 60 yards. Easy to adjust my scope aim points once I figured it all out.
I thought I was missing the 90 yard target completely no matter what I tried. Turned out, at 90 yards the flathead pellet just dented the can and I could not see it move that far away. But I hit it several times. Within a short while, I was consistantly knocking off the small coffee cans at 60 yards. I was pleased.  A Crosman flathead had enough energy left at 60 yards to go through the front of a thick plastic coffee can and lodge halfway through the back. At 50 yards it punched through the front of a steel can, but only dented the rear. At 40 yards it went through both sides of the steel can.
No comparison of course to the PCP guns being shot that day though...... Career, Sumatra, FX,  .25 Talon, and a .50 Career DragonSlayer. Yes, I'm buying another Career 707 rifle next week. What can I say, I regret ever selling mine.
But the little shorty B19 did extremely well outside of the basement!!! And at 30 yards and beyond, it actually shot better with cheapie Cromans than RWS SuperDomes.

What city is your basement in Jack? Smiley Just curious where your shooting. Wish I could drum up some visitors here for some shooting.

I'm in Columbus, Ohio.....so is my basement  Smiley
I used to shoot with a couple of local guys years ago, but lost touch with them. We shot on a farmer's land. It had a nice walnut tree filled wooded area bordering corn fields with loads of squirrels, all sorts of starlings, ground squirrels, and groundhogs. The farmer kept a large area mowed where we set up targets. And there was a dirt tractor road making a loop through the woods. A fantastic place to shoot and hunt with airguns. It kinda got not-so-great when the Sherriff and Feds descended upon it one day because someone had a hundred or so pot plants tucked off in one corner of an overgrown portion. I decided that walking around with a moderated Career 707 in that area was probably asking for trouble and stopped going out there.
A few weeks ago I posted on another forum asking if there was anyone around here shooting airguns. Got one response. But it turned out to be a good one. Since he has access to a private turkey shoot range where we can shoot Sunday mornings all by ourselves. So I shoot in my basement at 10 yards. But now I can get outside on an actual range for up to 100 yards. Yes, I could pay to join one of the gun ranges around here. But shooting airguns next to the camo'ed dudes with M16's just doesn't enthuse me at all. Been there, done that! And the muzzle-loading gun club I belong to does not permit airguns! Imagine that! My .70 caliber flintlock is just fine there, but not a .177 airgun.
