I read Bill's account of his Raccoon  hunt & I figured I'd share an "Excercise" my dad taught me a long time ago when I was lerning to shoot. He called it "Snap Shooting" . It improves muscle memory & reflexes for a quicker shot.

While facing you target, hold the rifle at waist level in the carry position. One hand on the pistol grip (finger outside/across the trigger guard!) and the other hand on the forearm. Now shoulder the rifle quickly (but SAFELY!), get on target and get your sight picture as close as you can then stroke the trigger. All of this should happen in 2.5 seconds or less.

As time goes by you'll notice (I did at least) that you'll get better & better at it , and your shot placment will be extremely close every time.

The only thing I think that sucks about this is that,  once you get used to it your bench rested groups kinda go south for a bit.

Hey Sam,

That is an excellent squad technique when you face your enemy, or are returning fire from an ambush. However when shot placement is required, and only one shot is available from one rifleman, caution is required.

If I give up my position without killing my target, I will not get another shot at the raccoon. With enemy troops, I very well may loose my life ! One shot, one kill !

That is what I was taught, and found very true !

I'm happy that the Raccoon doesn't have a shooter ! lol

After a while you learn to smell your enemy... And with a good sniffer and a wet finger you will know which way he is coming from..
