Hey Tim, way to go! It sure is nice to have a rifle that you not only have sooo much confidence in but also has such sentimental value and good looks as well. And it gets the job done so well in your good hands. You know Timmy, that rifle would make a great squirrel gun. It's of a good size and weight and can take the brush without worry. Since I know you're getting ready to ambush a whitetail soon, if I were you I'd carry that Panther and a shooting stick on all of my pre-season scouting forays.

You gonna eat those? Poor possum. Coons carry distemper and rabies. Possums don't carry diseases and are very docile. They have a hard row to hoe. Folks kill them because they're ugly. Just remember, possums and vultures eat the things we don't want to smell. Nice shooting, though. Shot the sh*t out of that one. I've caught them in my Havahart cat traps while trying to catch feral cats and they *_*_*_*_*_*e themselves just like that, apparently out of fear. Those teeth are needle sharp but possums are very unlikely to bite you. They will if you mess with them enough, but they prefer to bare their teeth and hiss. If you do mess with one enough to get bitten, you'll need antibiotics and a tetanus shot(because of what they may have just eaten). No rabies shot though, they don't carry rabies. In fact, it's almost impossible for a possum to even get rabies.
Coons are another story. Mean, filthy, disease-ridden. But they're cute, so people like them. I've seen what a raccoon does to a cat in a fight and it's not pretty. We had one around here a few years ago that was getting into the garbage can and the cat's food. I shot it with the B3 and it looked at me and went back to eating. I went inside and grabbed my .22 magnum pump. As I walked back outside, it waddled off and climbed a tree in my front yard, in no apparent hurry. I shot it with the .22 mag as it climbed, and it fell instantly. .22 mag HP to the fuse box does wonders. This was before I knew just how underpowered the B3 was for the task.
Makes me want to use my R1 on coons and rabbits.

Jaymo; Hey buddy. Yes 'coons do get rabies and every year around here we find one or two with rabies, but foxes and feral cats are the worst here in Tidewater Virginia. My mom has eaten Possum and she says they are pretty greasy. I've never had one. When I was a boy, my dad brought home Racoons and mom cooked them in stews. They told us that we were eating squirrel and we bought into it until I got old enough to understand that those thigh bones were not from a squirrel. Folks should be real careful when cleaning anything, even deer. They should be real careful that the game they choose to eat looks and acts healthy when it is killed and they should talk with their county agricultural agent so that they know what diseases are prevalent in the local game population. When I got out of the Army, I took to trapping for money and to feed the kids, while I went to college on the GI bill. We ate a lot of 'coons and nutria during that time and I never trapped one that had rabbies or anything else. That was in San Angelo, Texas back in the mid 80s. I think the biggest thing we need to do is ensure that we wear latex gloves when cleaning our game and make darn sure that we cook it real well before we enjoy it. Buddy, I ain't looking for an argument. I'm just putting my two cents into the pot like everyone else.
