: Cummings tool truck sale comming to town.
: November 08, 2006, 05:50:10 AM
As some of you know Cummings Tool Truck sales sells airguns. I believe that  it is the Chinese B3-1. I have never bought owned or shot one of these guns. Some of the forum members here have owned, tuned and sold this gun. I would like some info about the gun. Is it worth the $20 or should I just put the money away and forget it. side note I was thinking about doing a really nice job refinishing the wood and a tune job, then giving it to my brother as a gift (a starter type gun). now if you guys tell me no matter how hard I try to split shine a turd, it will always be a turd then I'll look elsewhere.
Thanks for the replies.

for that price I think you get the 30/30 warranty...Which is 30 step or 30 seconds which ever comes first.
I believe that it is the b3-1 just at there price. For $20 I'm going to look at it.

The Cummins B3-1 is one of the great bargains out there. Yes, it's a cheap gun - but it does not have the very poor reputation of the B1 and B2 series of cheap breakbarrels.

Yes, it's very much worth the $20, and for $8.00 you can buy this:

Which has a cleaning rod, a nylon brush and a cotton flannel for the barrel, and a spare piston seal, breach seal, mainspring, and trigger parts. It's a great kit to have if you're gonna overhaul the gun, and several people have noted that the spring that comes in this kit is actually superior to the one that originally comes in the gun.

Cool...Ok the rebuild looks do-able. what about the wood?
are there any safety issues with this gun?

Safety issues? Yes, two.

First, it is powerful enough to do serious damage. Don't shoot anybody with it.

Second, and this is true with ALL airguns with the sliding pump cylinder, it is considered prudent to hold the cocking lever with one hand while loading the pellet with the other. If the sear were to fail and the gun try to fire while the breach was open AND your fingers were in it... it'll seriously injure them. This is also true of the Fast Deer, the Xisico B3/B7, the QB88, the B4-2, etc.

The up side is that the gun probably isn't powerful enough to actually cut your fingers off, unlike rifles like the QB36-2 or the B21/B30.

The wood is touch and go on these. When I stripped mine (bought 3-4 years ago), I found one of the nicests pieces of wood I'd ever seen on a Chinese gun. But the wood on my B4-2 was pretty poor.

As soon as you get the rifle get it out of the box and have a look at it. Especially the barrel and sights. I've seen a couple of them with bent sights and barrels.
