I am sure you have all seen this but being a newbie and searching the net for info I came across this on Youtube.

It is almost unbelievable to me that they are making such long shots with airguns! Wonder what they are using?

Airguns can make these shots no problem and even longer ones.. depending on the power of the gun, how well you know how to use it, or how long you 've practiced with it.

This type of shooting is crazy though.  If you noticed in a couple of their crow shoots there were apartment buildings and windows right behind the crow or the light pole they were on.  These guys are nuts.. I 'm sure some of those pellets ended up where they weren't supposed to because they go right through the crow most of the time depending on the distance.  And there were almost always people around or in public areas.  They 've been lucky so far.  These pellets have to land somewhere, and who knows if they 've hurt some people or property already.  I wouldn't doubt it, and they woulnd't know it either if the pellet hit someone by accident on its way down.  That's a big city.. I 'm sure not everything makes the papers.

Welcome to the airgun world.  It sounds like you will be addicted like the rest of us in no time!  hehe

I noticed the same thing.  They sure were not very concerned about a proper backstop.  In fact, as I searched youtube and watched many of the videos I saw many people not using safe backstops.  In one video it appeared that his backstop was his neighbors house...  I  showed this video to my daughter and explained what a big safety issue it was.

As for addicted... I saw a posting in the Bargain Gate informing me of the Gamo pellet sale..  I ordered three tins and don't even have a rifle yet!

Hi there, they're usin EDGun "Matador" and HooliGun rifles made in Russia, the power of the first one can reach easily 100 Joules of power.
They're training a lot for long distant shots,'cos the target is always crows, most of the times they're shooting from inside the car.

Welcome to the GTA forum and family N_Strike. Very nice and knowledgeable airgunners here. Since your first post is in the "Hunting Gate"....hope you'll be posting some hunting photos soon.

Thanks for the welcomeing!
My favorite targets ar crows,pidgeons,collar doves and other birds you use to call pests;
her where I live (Italy) there's no clear regulations for the different use of air rifles(only sports activity are strictly regulated),
so most of the times my shoots "hit the center" either I don't have my camera or the preys are not reachables in any way.
I'll try my best to share some of them with you all.

Coming N_Strike.....it`s been 3 days since you joined us......we want to see some critters killed by your airgun!!!!!!   The best part of the Italian law...."No clear regulations for the different use of air rifles....".

.... (Italy) there's no clear regulations for the different use of air rifles(only sports activity are strictly regulated)....

Does that mean air rifles are considered same as firearms?
: Re: City Crow Hunting Video
: N_Strike March 05, 2009, 10:42:59 AM
Not always, only if it's more powerfull than 7,5 Joules and used outside your property(only for plinkin...),
then if you're within your property, no one has the right of doin anything about it.
You can go shootin also to friends' land but the point is you need firearms permission to take it out your home!!!
It's not mentioned in any law the hunting with air powered weapons but in your land it'not precisely prohibited to shoot some animals.
We dont have pests or would be better to say we do have but it's not recognised as a problem!?!
It's so complicated to have a full power air rifle that any way you try there's always something wrong,so I bought it in another country and solved the problem!!!
Whatever will happen I'll just say "I didn't know"  :)

Yeah. Thats just unacceptable. The background is a cityscape...windows, cars, people...not good. The crows around here go down when there is a safe shot. I would never shoot in a city like that. Not good. Thats one of the reasons why regulations are born.

Thanks for quick answer.  I guess we take for granted our "firearm/airgun" rights here in the USA.

I agree.  That is NOT responsible shooting.

Are those the two guys driving around in Turkey?  I think that is where they were.  It's an old link.  Really stupid, dangerous shots.  IIRC, there's one where a bird actually falls into what looks like an open exhaust flue.  Something like that could kill folks if it causes a back draft.  And some of the shots aren't clean kills, too.
: Re: City Crow Hunting Video
: davee1 March 06, 2009, 08:27:13 AM
Yeah Red...I saw a few shots where a followup shot was needed, but none was shown. It made me feel sorry for the crows...and in my heart I knew that my crow kills have been clean. I hate to see critters suffer...even pests...it just aint right.
: Re: City Crow Hunting Video
: N_Strike March 06, 2009, 10:17:37 AM
They're not from Turkey, they're from Russia and it's a whole club totally into crow shooting(aka City Crow Hunters).
Theyr law prohibits them to hunt in the cityes but if they're busted by the police,
everything can be solved with some hundred bucks. :-)

My Take on this:  Yes it is irresponsible & in some cases posibly dangerous.  A "falling" pellet fired from a long ways away retains very little energy. (Im not saying it could not cause injury) Backstop?? Well thats debatable. (The Crows in most instances provide that) Now,, Im not defending this wrekless behavior.  I HATE Crows. Those jerks have destroyed MANY of my crops back when my Dad owned the farm. This type of vidio is certainly not good for the image us responsible airgunners want. I will say this though,,, while I certainly cannot nor would not condone that type of "Hunting"?? I must admit,,,,,I enjoy watching them. I think its called: Freedom of speech/press?? And,,,,, just for the record,,,, I have NEVER shot any Crows or Grackels in the Wal Mart parking lot with 2 miles of woods behind them. I did however build a custom 2250 for a Friend of mine that we named the "Grackinator",,, Again,, I cannot condone his wreckless behavior :p  Besides,,, that 2 miles of woods is now SLOWLY becoming a sub devision,,, & "Wally World" has installed cameras?? :0  GEEZZEE!!  John Doe.

Timmy- i dont know to much land that isnt being built up anymore...... in like 20 years we wont have any more room on the continent, and then we will probably turn to underground cities and cities over the water and weird stuff like that
: Re: City Crow Hunting Video

Tim - What they did was irresponsible and unsportsmanlike, no matter how you try to polish it up.  A falling pellet will easily take an eye out.   Would you approve of this if they were riding around shooting .22 shorts or CB's?  Guess they are a southern Russia club - or Morons Without Borders.

Red my Friend,,,, Thanks for "calling" me on this one Buddy. My post was out of line for shure. And no,,,, shooting shorts or cb,s would be launching aprox 30 grain projectiles to lord only knows where with enough retained energy to do more harm than just putting an "eye out". Im not minimizing airguns in this case because we both know many PCP air guns can equal or exede rimfire shorts or CB power. I was wrong to post what I did. Im sure I will catch heck from others as well. Its just another one of them posts I have made I kinda wish I had the ability to delete??:0 Then again,,,,, I could have edited it?? (I dont need to be a moderator here to do that). I hunt,,,, thats who I am. Like you,,, I also respect ALL of Gods creatures. I got a soft spot in my heart just like you,,,,,And how about Ed raising that Bunny in his home,,,, how bout my other Buddy Marvin,,,,certainly I love his pics. of animals. "Hunters" are in my opinion the ones that love animals more than "Tree Huggers". Man am I getting side tracked now??:o The "crow vidio" was not the image we want to portray. I still HATE Crows. Im not too fond of Squirrels eating my house either. Tim.

I agree as well Tim...That video does not portray the proper use of airguns at all and does not reflect the actions or values we want to portray on this forum.Even though Istill hate Crows and Squirrels as well, I wouldn't kill them just for sport. If they would ceasecausingdestruction to our property I'd leave them alone and just punch paper (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif)
