I already posted this on the Airgun Gate, but in case some does see it I want to try it here.
We all seem to know that new springer rifles need a break in period. Maybe a tin or so of pellets through it to get the rifle to settle down. Maybe to stop the dieseling and get all the lubes in the right place. What about the gas ram springs? Do they need a break in period? Since there are no lubes, ( or am I wrong about this? ) should a gas ram spring rifle shoot well out of the box?
I just pushed the button and bought a whisper .177 with the venturi gas ram from Pyramid. I've been sitting on this for awhile. I want a quiet rifle to use in the yard.....and NOW I just heard about the Crosman Nitro which has a noise level of 2 !!! Dang! I would have/ might have gone that way since the price is almost the same and the noise level is lower than the Whisper, but the weight is a whole lot more. It weights as much as my RWS 34 Pro.
Anyways, what should I look for, or does a gas ram need a break in period? I also just bought the GRT III to go with the Whisper.

Yes there still is a breakin period for them. Not the gas ram per say but the piston seal, cocking shoe and generally all the moving parts. Of course you will need to season your barrel which will take a couple hundred pellets. Don't forget the trigger. The stock triggers on the Gamo's and Gamo Clones, generally never get better so think about a GRT-III.

I would put up any of my springers air rifles against any gas ram air rifle, pellet per pellet any day. That is how confident I am with springers...:) Even the Theoben Gas Rams..:)

BTW..Like you said,The Gas-Ram rifles do have a break-in period & the temperature affects the velocity!!!

Yes Paul,
They do need a "Break in period", for all the reason Gene said ! And they are seldom as powerful as the spring versions of the Whisper. And the installation of the Great GRT-III trigger is a must !!!!! If you think a Gas Ram makes a difference, wait until you put in a GRT-III trigger, WOW !!! You will not believe the difference !
