: RWS Barrel Droop??
: Tpatner412 April 06, 2010, 10:54:42 AM
I have been considering purchasing the RWS 34 for some time now.  I was wondering if the compact version suffers from barrel droop the same way that the regular full length rifles do?

My second question is in regard to the RWS 48.  Does this fixed barrel rifle also suffer from barrel droop?  The idea of that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me but I figured someone who actually owns one will know.

Thanks everyone
Tyler

I don't know how much droop a compact has VS a regular barrel. Yes, some fixed barrel Dianas also have droop. Why? Because the barrel alignment on these mass produced guns varies slightly from unit to unit. Diana furnishes most of their guns with iron sights and shooters in other countries do use them. As a result, Diana adjusts the guns so that they shoot at a certain distance within the adjustment range of the sights. In other words, they bend the barrels to make the guns work within the iron sight's range. To people who shoot with a scope this sounds weird but to iron sight shooters it makes perfect sense.

I think Gene needs to take a look at this because I'm sure he has owned or owns both lol

I am not 100%sure but believe all Diana/ RWS 34's have droop you may call Umarex USA to confirm, they have been really helpful to me:).   I have this http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/UTG_Scope_Mount_Base_Fits_RWS_Diana_48_52_54_460_Magnum_Compensates_for_Droop_Stops_Scope_Shift/2297   on a 34 a 52 (similar to a 48 you mentioned so yes it has droop) and also a 350 mag. It is the 17.1deg droop I found worked out best the steeper 20deg one did not work well at all for me, I use low mounts on it with 50mm scopes and very solid indeed.  RWS  also make a one peice drooper mount, I have used and it work well too. Hope that helps:0

Why can't that just make their sights better?

Better than who's? The issue is not that the sights are inadequate. It's more like having a barrel that is out of alignment so much that you can only use a quarter of your scope's adjustment. Same thing with the irons. Maybe one gun shoots so high the sights can hardly crank it back down, etc. Diana regulates the POI to fall within the middle of the sight's adjustment (at a certain distance). Anyway, there are now a couple of good adjustable scope mounts. Droop is only an issue with scopes and you'll be needing a good mount if you use one.

Just shoot a blue pill thru it. That'll fix it!

I don't think the compact has droop. The guns come with RWS mount and scope so not much to worry about if it does. Mike M did a lube tune and straightened the barrel on my old 34. She runs like a top nice and smooth.
