: New .22 Gamo Magnum not too good
: HNT5 June 05, 2010, 11:35:21 AM
I received 3 tins of .22 Gamo Magnums from Cabelas Friday. I have always thought Gamo standard lead pellets pretty decent for the cost, and several of my rifles shoot them surprising well. I like them for plinking and breaking in guns. Now I understand they’re not the best but I have had good luck until now. I think the factory may have made some changes. The new tins have a silver lid whereas my older lot has a black (painted?) lid. The new pellets look different inside the skirt, with a small lip sort of like a Crosman or RWS pellet. They appear to be smoother and shinier. But they are smaller in size as they slip easily into the breech. The older ones required some finger pressure to seat them fully. They are undersized enough that I experienced several semi-dry fires (as evidenced by the louder sound and slower chronograph reading (1 shot was 117 fps slower than the previous). Those that shoot acceptably, actually fly about 25 fps faster than the black lid lot.  I only shot a few pellets and called it quits. I sent Gamo USA an email voicing my displeasure and I will return the pellets either to Gamo or Cabelas. If this is the type of pellets I can expect in the future I will not buy anymore and have to find another lower cost pellet option. My pictures are not the best as my camera does not take real good close ups.

I never had any luck with the Magnum's or most pointed pellet's other then the Predators. I have a tin of .177's and .22 Magnums that are only used to season in a barrel. Ed
