: 3/8 vs 11mm dovetail
: fisherdude May 12, 2008, 03:46:01 PM
I am looking for a scope mount for a Chinese springer.  is a 3/8 dovetail the same as 11 mm dovetail?  Where is a good place to get a sc0pe mount at a good price?

They are not identical in dimension. As someone mentioned in another thread the Accushot mounts have a rail which accomodates both by flipping it over. I think it may have been Peak Chick that mentioned this which was news to me.

I have Accushot 2 piece mounts on my R7, R1, B-26, and Ham 850. No problems with any of them. If you are average sie, go with the high mounts so you can use a relaxed heads up position instead of scrunching your face against the stock. Very important when you are shooting a springer.

3/8ths is no where near 11mm.

the decimal equivalent to 3/8ths is .375
11mm is .43307

thats a difference of almost a 1/16th of an inch. you NEED to get the correct mount otherwise it will slip over time, or you will grind out your set screws trying to make up the difference since it won't seat flush.

I went through all this suffering when I was trying to find a scope mount for my whisper (which is a 11.5 mm dovetail). no one makes the correct one-size-only, you can only get these kind that are supposed to fit a variety of sizes as mentioned earlier.

right now I am in the process of machining my own mount. I've been a machinst for fourteen and a half years now, and I've got it all drawn up. the only thing hampering the project is the dovetail tool, and the correct one costs $60+.

once the "stimulous" check shows up I'll buy the right one and get going on it.

You are absolutely correct on the whisper. The suppled mount does not work--accushot one piece certainly much better.

I just coughed up $30 for the free shipping at Optics planet, and they had good prices on the Accushot 1 piece mount.   The reversible rail clamped really well, and is alot more solid than all of my other two piece sets.   In my case it also had to fit a 13mm rail on a BSA Lightning.
To make the shipping minimun, I got a couple sets of the $4.50  NC Star 2 piece mounts.  I can only say they were not worth it.  I should have just ordere a second Accushot.
