Indoor rifle suggestions?
« on: November 07, 2006, 02:04:12 PM »
Okay, weather and the end of Daylight Savings time has me going into withdrawals from not being able to shoot.  And the 1377 isn't cutting it.  I don't know what happened, for years I considered myself a handgunner, but now it's just not the same if it isn't a rifle!

So here's the deal.  My shop is big enough for an indoor 10 yard/meter range.  Although I've shot my CFX in there, it just doesn't feel right.  Too powerful and noisy, I guess.  So what I'd like is an inexpensive, accurate, lower powered rifle for my indoor "range".  I'm considering the IZH-61, but I've heard some mixed reviews.  I think I want to stay with a springer, pump guns make my elbow hurt, and CO2 is problematic where I live because of the seasonal temperature extremes.

So does anyone have any experience/opinions of the 61?  Any other suggestions?  Thanks, people.

Dave

R7?

Same condtions made me pick up my first used match rifle (an older FWB300) and later a single stroke pneumatic. Even used, these aren't dirty-cheap...but have really learned more about shooting from them (the human part...the rifles pretty much take care of the mechanical part of accuracy just fine).  Haunt the pilkgun used gun lists.

Even the cheap daisy 953m with a home grown trigger job, is amazingly consistant...low powered in the extream, but will shoot some amazing groups for such an inexpensive gun.

Hav ehad no prblems with the IZH 61...and for the $, there may not be a better trigger.  Low powered abain, but that's the trade off for quietness.  Never did try to mount a scope on the 61, did mount a spare match apature sights. For the ranges at which you'd shoot, and at paper targes, a good set of iron seems to shoot as well as a scope (NOT true once you get more distance or shange from a nice round bull that fits in your front sight ring just right).

Cheap and low powered is what I'm looking for.  I was just looking at the 953, the the heavy trigger was a definite turn off.  Do you have any details for a "home grown trigger job"?  I'm kind of anal about triggers, that's one of the things that appeals to me about the IZH 61.  I'd love a true match rifle, but not on my (nonexistant!) butget.  Maybe some day...  And ditto for the R7.  I'm leaning more and more to the 61, but thought I'd wait and see what pops up here.  So thanks for kicking things off.

But if you compare the IHZ 61 has a bout a 1.5 pound trigger pull and the daisy has about 6. Thats a big jump in my book, and im picky about my triggers. just my .02

This is pretty clear:

But you do have to be wsomewhat handy with tools...the Daisy isn't the most fun to take apart or put back togetehr, but it just takes a bit of patience, no special tooling.

Still think the '61 is way ahead of the game.

My 853(wood stocked version of the 953) has the above trigger job outlined in the pilkguns site and the trigger could'nt be better light crisp and very accurate. Its makes the gun much better and an excellent indoor target gun.

Is the CZ631 still available where you are? They are a great value, very accurate and fun to tinker with.
