Diana 34 scope mount
« on: August 26, 2009, 09:15:05 AM »
OK I tried to do a search for help but really dont have time to read a thousand posts.

Have new (five year old) "Lady Di 34 coming soon.  No scope, just iron sights.

Need to get the right scope mount ordered asap.  Recommendations please. Think I will use a Bushnell Trophy on her.

Thanks

If you have droop http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/UTG_Scope_Mount_Base_Fits_RWS_Diana_34_36_38_45_Compensates_for_Droop_Stops_Scope_Shift/2298

No droop http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/UTG_Scope_Mount_Base_Fits_RWS_Diana_Rifles_Gamo_Whisper_Others/2639

These rings http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/Leapers_Space_Age_1_Rings_Low_Weaver_Mount/2445

I have the "no droop" on my Panther it is a tad higher than I would like but it is fine as a hunter.
I also have the HM17021 from Hawke http://www.hawkeoptics.com/us/mounts/bases.php
It is about 1/8" lower than the no droop model. It has an over hanging half moon stop that will work just fine and you can fine tune the amount of elevation. Whichever way you go just make sure you get LOW rings.

Problem is I don't have the gun yet-- so don't have a clue if there is "droop" or not! :o  :p

I needed a new scope mount for my Diana 34 because the RWS "C" mount just wasn't getting the job done. I purchased the UTG mount desigined for the 34 from Pyrimid and the weaver low mount rings. They have 3 different UTG mounts for Diana's. One is for the 34, one is for the 48 which has less droop compensation, and one that has no droop compensation. My Diana must not have as much droop as most because the UTG mount for the 34 over compensated and I had to shim the front ring. I could have probably gotten away without shimming but I wanted to have the scope as close to optical center as possable. If you need the item numbers of the mount and rings let me know, I'll look them up and post them.

Some people on the Diana Collective site say for the 34, get the UTG for the 48, some say to get the UTG for the 34 and some say to get the no droop UTG mount and shim the back ring. I went with the mount for the 34 and could have used the mount for the 48. You never know how much droop your Diana 34 will have until you start mounting a scope. I know this makes it hard to choose the right mount but if I had to do it over again I would go with the 48 mount and shim if it was necessary.

Guess I gotta read up on barrel droop.  The gun I am getting supposedly has less than 50 pellets shot, then put away in the box.  We will see.  Last thing I need right now is another "VAST" research and FIXIT project, so I will try an old mount I have first and see how it goes.  Thanks for the inputs.  What is this "Diana Collective" group?

If you decide on the utg mount use LOW mounts or will be to high i also  found that this base works best it is BTW a very solid mount ( http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/UTG_Scope_Mount_Base_Fits_RWS_Diana_48_52_54_460_Magnum_Compensates_for_Droop_Stops_Scope_Shift/2297 )   on the Diana 34's its the dn460 / 17.5 degree and not 20.5 like the other chioce if you speak to sales at pyramid they should confirm:) Will save you having excessive scope adjustment.  I think this mount  works too http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=348187    Oh almost forgot make sure you order 30mm or 1" correctely to suit you scope tube:)

personally i'd stay away from two piece mounts. having droop compensation is nice but not obligatory. i use the cheapest Gamo one piece high mount, and i shimmed the back ring with a slice of packaging plastic foil. you know the type that you normally see in cardboard boxes that have a transparent window (for instance toy packages).
the gamo mount is very practical since it has the stop pin directly by the end of the mount, so instead of using the pin hole i turned the mound around and made so that the stop pin is a bit out of the rail. that prevents it to move backwards. i've been shooting like this for months now and everything works just fine and nothing moves.

I'd just wait untill you get the rifle and shoot it some. Adjusting the "irons" elevation will give you a good idea of how much droop your barrel may or may not have,....also a straight edge will help you to evaluate which mount you need,...be it the UTG 34, 46,. or the non compensating rail they offer. Ring heighth (SP?!?!) is totally dependant on the shooter. I put the 34 rail on my,..34!!! And it works great. My B-28A has no droop to merit a comp mount,..so I chose the Non-Comp rail for it,...Again,....excellent results and performance!! Like I said, Wait until you get the weapon and shoot it some. Then you'll get a better feeling of which route to take,...Mount/rail wise. tjk
