comparing my two babies
« on: October 12, 2009, 06:37:57 AM »
I know some may not think this is a fair comparison but here we go I'm comparing a Mike Melick tuned B26 and a stock TF89 both in .22 caliber, the B26 has a Leapers 4X32AO with mil dot recticle TS scope in a accushot 1 piece mount and with a custom (by me)ported muzzle brake, The TF89 is Bone stock(so far) only because its new it has a Barska 3X12X44AO air gun scope with mil dot recticle in a accushot 1 piece mount with high rings, I haven't weighed either rifle but I know the B26 is lighter by over a pound, the cocking force of the TF89 is twice as hard as the B26, both are Deadly accurate the B26 is easier to shoot well, because the TF89 is hold sensitive and the B26 is more forgiving, the TF89 hits A LOT harder than the B26, my B26 shoots 14.3 grain pellets around 670 fPS, I know this from when I bought it of Mike because he chronographed it, it shot the lighter hobby type pellets around 720 FPS, the TF89 has over twice the penetration power than the B26 and is more pellet picky, although both seem to like Crossman premier pointed pellets, the B26 will shoot dead on at 30 yards as long as the pellet weight is the same, not so with the TF89 its off with different types but not by much maybe a half inch but groups very well where it hits. The best way to compare the two to each other is by comparing them to boxers, the Mike Melick B26 is like Floyd Mayweather JR. Light on it feet, accurate and packs a pretty good punch, the TF89 is like Mike Tyson in his heyday,  not as light on his feet but hits like a ton off bricks and needs to be persuade to perform its best. Both are champions in their weight classes and I love both of these guns and as soon as I have the 89 tuned I'll do another comparison, but both guns are well built with the edge in quality going to the B26, the. TF89 isn't as refined. As the B26, but its still a very nice gun for a great price, I have around 255 bucks in my tuned B26 scope and mount included and about 200 in the TF 89 with scope and mount, the service Mike Melick provide on his lube tunes is worth twice what he charges, I'll end up with another 150 bucks in my TF89 after getting it turbo tuned, and the tunes Gene does are much more involved than a lube tune, and his tunes are a real bargain also, so there it is my take on to great affordable guns happy shooting

and Gene knows the TF89. The one he tuned for me keeps getting sweeter. .2 10-shot groups @ 10 yards. It used to be more like .6 ... and that is saying nothing about the difference in feel and the totally awesome trigger difference (I'm used to it now Gene, and OH BOY is it better!).

Doc I'm not a pro-Try muzzle mack (Joe) he can make any kind you can imagine- out of any material you want and he's a super cool guy-, if you want to make your own,I made mine from a existing brake that I had, it was just a plain black cheap one that I bought from Xisico for my B26 for 18 bucks the same brake comes stock on the B26-2, all the cheap paint started chipping off of it and it looked rough, so I stripped it of the rest of its paint and polished it with a dremal tool and rubbing compound then ported it to reduce muzzle flip, it turned out great but the polished finish was too. light reflective for hunting, so I went on line and found some carbon fiber tubing that fit snug(luckily) over the old brake, attached it and matched it to the porting I had done, so now it looks like it was made from carbon fiber with a polished tip, it looks cool and was easy to make I have about 60 dollars, the carbon fiber tube was 40 dollars and 12 hrs worth of work in it, which I could have cut in half if I didn't polish it first, but if you like the polished look they are easy to do, just takes some time and patience, I wanted something on mine that I made and was special, I'm still in the process of getting a custom stock for my B26, when I get done I'll have around 800 dollars in a chinese rifle but that's how much I like that gun and I'll never get rid of it, this airgun thing is a addicting hobby Lol,  I got 3 hobbies and need to loose about 2 of them because they've all become expensive, but what else is a guy supposed to do?

I absolutely agree Gene, I've been waiting on a response to a email I sent to you about getting it tuned by you, they are in two different classes, the B26 is a plinker compared to even a stock TF89, but I really like my B26 a lot, as I do the TF89, I can't wait to see what kind of magic you can work with it,
