Been very busy in 25 yard/50 yard benchrest...plus went up to shoot in CASA California State FT Match last weekend near L.A.....I did not do well in FT due to harness strap issues...but autoduel (Steve) did pretty good with his Maurader Bullpup rig...we were squaded together on Saturday...I did not shoot Sunday,so I got a DNF..

Got a 50 yard benchrest match tomorrow...so hunting has been on the back burner...

My goal this year was to get competitive in air rifle benchrest...that is why I had my 850 converted to HPA by a friend in Texas...my efforts are paying off now, because I'm competitive in benchrest against all the "high buck" Euro and custom built rifles..

Next year,I'll get more serious about FT...I just have to decide which class to shoot in.

Btw...shooting benchrest really improves your marksmanship...you learn to "read" the wind  plus refine all the other techniques that go along with shooting accurately...and pays off when hunting squirrels...lol...

I've gotten into FT big time and like it a lot more than shooting paper. I'll probably make it to all the prado matches, but angeles is still too far of a drive.
I'm uncertain about the SD benchrest matches, but might make it to a few of the AGBR matches.  They don't like me shooting BR-50 targets with my .20 cal.
I re-polished the lead-in and I tested my 2250 at my inlaw's back yard and it was finally shooting 1/4" groups at 31 yds with 13.5gn JSB's.  Unfortunately while checking the clicks for other yardages, I found that the zero was shifting.  I might convert it to HPA and shoot 12 ft-lb class with it.

Rich, shooting with straps is like night and day.  I hope you find some soon.  You can try mail-ordering the the Black Diamond Alpine Bod harness if you can't find it locally at a climbing shop.
Are you going  to the xmas shoot in prado on the 13th?
P.S. you can practice at prado during the FT matches and it's 50 yds.

Yes,I'm going Dec 13 to Prado...if I don't get straps in time, I'll shoot hunter....Angeles for me is a 300 mile round trip...doubt I'll go back there...

Regarding the Alpine BOD harness,I think I can make it work for me by attaching an adjustible strap from the D rings on belt...don't think I can draw my knees up far enough to make it work like you did...REi has them in stock in San Diego...I'm going over there to check them out..
AOA still hs not received any of the Shooting Harness yet...been calling them each week for past 5 weeks...they are the only source now...

Hey...I shot in LD's 50 yard benchrest yesterday...wind was a real chalenge..!! But got some 3 shot groups of  .410", .530"  etc when wind fell off a bit....last month had a group of .322"...!!!  The 850 is shooting lights out...I just have to work on reading wind better...which should help in FT....

All they need to get at SDPD is a "plug" for scoring .20 cal.......seems dumb to rule out .20 cal when they need shooters....

Some pics from yesterday..

This target will give you an idea how tough it is shooting in the wind 50 yards at LD's....

Hey guys....bummed that I haven't been able to hook up with the group in quite some time.  Lack of time and finances....but sounds like everybody is getting some good shooting in.  Prado sounds pretty cool - nice to hear they have a practice range.  I don't have the skills or gear for FT at this point but being able to come out, get some shooting in and meet everybody sounds fun.  How far of a R/T is Prado from San Diego?

Sounds nice!  I'll have to make that trek one of these days.  Nice to see that 850 shooting so well against the high end Euro / USFT stuff.  I was inspired by Ron Robinson and how well he did at the USFTA Nationals with a sub $450 modded AR2079 - cheapo scope included!  And Steve, awesome work on the Marauder bullpup - looks like you caused quite a stir at the CA championships!

Take care,

Casey

Seen that...think all the teething issues has forced price down..many are having them tuned by Greg in AZ....but I'd get another 850 HPA in .22 cal  before considering a Mrod...

Still waiting for a $138 refurb to come up. Might jump on the Mrod though. Awfully cheap for that gun especially for one that does so well with a 2000 psi fill. Making some progress on a venue too. I will keep you posted

Heading out to the potential venue on Saturday morning with EzyE.  If there is any advice on what to look for in terms of spacing, facilities, distances etc for FT/target shoots let me know!

I would suggest a plot at least 55 yards deep...and approx  30 yards wide at minimum for FT .....that way,you can easily accomodate 10 shooting lanes of 2 targets each for FT...(40 targets)...
Prado was about that size....Keep in mind,in FT shooters move to each lane..

Obviously,if just doing target shooting, then depth of 50 yards is more important than width...as you can shoot relays if space (width) is restricted...

Also, you will need a good effective backstop for either....

Regards,

Rich
