Question for Mendoza owners
« on: March 03, 2010, 04:55:25 PM »

Was going to buy a 600 in .177 but am having second thoughts. When I asked about the shot cycle, the owner said it had more twang than his 350, 460 and 52. I though, whoah! Those are some pretty heavy hitters. He has only put a hundred through it and was getting 900 fps, I would assume from the oil. My question is, do these have a harsh shot cycle when burning oil? I've seen many posts saying they are actually smooth shooters once you let the oil work off. Or does it sound like something else? I wouldn't hesitate except those three guns he mentioned are some of the hardest kickers around.

Thanks in advance!

It's pushing 900 plus, what kind of shot cycle do you think its going to have?

They are nice guns for the money.

Just reread your post. What's with the "old buyer's remorse???" FYI, I have a medical condition where I can't shoot guns like a 460. Look before you leap - that pool ain't full. Yes, I realize that, at 900 fps and dieseling, it's going to have some twang. What I'm wondering is do they NOT twang once the oil burns off??? If anyone can give me the 411 rather quickly, I would appreciate it as I'm on the fence with this and it may be sold to someone else.

Again, thanks!

Well, I'm off the fence and am going to give this one a try. See if it settles down without the oil. Still, if anyone has experience with these and can answer my question, I would appreciate it.

One other question. I see that the end cap has a large rectangular part just aft of the compression tube. Will that work for a scope stop or do you still need one?

RedFeather,
That plastic cover at the end of the compression tube is designed to be a scope stop. The pin which holds it in place also holds the trigger internal parts in place. Do not remove it without replacing it with another pin 7/8 inch long. Center the new pin in the trigger and you can then remove the trigger assembly, once you compress the spring and remove the pin at the end of the tube. Hope you like the Mendoza.

Epilogue -

When I received the Mendoza, I was really impressed with the fit and finish. No indication whatsoever of a cheap gun. The shot cycle was a bit too much for me and someone else here wanted it, so I sold it to him. He eventually lubed her and reported that it was a really sweet shooter. Kind of like the old Mossbergs - "A lot of gun for the money".

I got my 2800 for a ridiculous price because it was missing some key parts (the sights and the loader). Finally got those parts from Mendoza for about the cost of the gun (that is shipping and the western union fee included). I like that it is a unique gun with the autoloader, diopter, thumb-hole stock and split-blade trigger. This one has been shot a lot...and it is pretty smooth. I'd buy guns like this for $100 all the time! On sale for $169 at pyramyd air... Use a 10% off coupon and that's right about $150. It is worth it for the extras!

I'd be interested to hear all of your velocities.  I think you'll find once the oil burns off, the velocity drops WAY down.  My buddy's RM-600 is shooting standard weight pellets (14.3g) at about 570fps.  Very smooth, quiet shot cycle and a good trigger, just low on power.

Yeah, Tom...I just got the deal worked out with Mendoza last week, not without some haggling! They seemed like they really didn't want to send the parts. But I finally got the loader, diopter and front sight for $52 with shipping!

by the way, Wayne is looking for you:

Tom, did not even try to strip the bedliner. Obviously I may have to. A blow torch may be the only option...but I also wonder what is underneath. The parts only just got here, so attacking the problem hasn't materialized.
