SO, I'M SHOOTING MY CFX
« on: May 06, 2010, 05:57:24 PM »
.177 today and trying different types of pellets. I tried Crosman pointed, and Destroyers. I tried Gamo Rockets, JSB Exacts, and some cheap Daisy wadcutter pellets. I was shooting ceramic targets and cans. The Crosman pointed were decent, Destroyers were not a CFX favorite. The rockets were o.k.. The Exacts were the best. Then I popped in a Daisy. Holy cow! I could not believe the accuracy! I was hitting quarter size pieces of ceramic pretty consistantly at 10 yards. I started laughing after the first three shots were hits. The cfx is not broken in yet, so I wonder if this will change. But it's pretty cool to have a tin of pellets for $1.96 shoot so good out of the CFX. The Exacts were a close second. A couple of my other airguns like them too. The destroyers work well in some of my guns and pretty bad in others.

Wiat till you back up past 10 yards. My best groups at 35 ft were gamo hunters and also they were the best all around. Velocity, accuracy and muzzle energy. Bt then I rolled back and the gorups really opened up. Was 4 in groups at 30 yards. Had to go back and get different pellets. Checked all my screws ran the gun through the chrony again just to find out my guns like jsb. I have shot accurately at 60 with my gamo hunter and 65 with the 350.  I don't like over 1/2 in groups at 30 yards or less and golf ball size groups at 65NAND the only pellets I can find that provide that are the JSB. Most pellets group good up close but stretch them out before you make your final decision.

Vinny, even 20 will be a better test,an on a target to see how it print's with your selection of pellet's.

Most times with a new airgun...I test in the basement (8 meters) or in the back yard (10 to 15 meters)....if the airgun don`t shoot well at those distances with certain pellets, it won`t shoot well further out.  I like to get 5mm to 8mm 10 shot groups at close distances....if I can`t get that, that pellet won`t get tested further out.

If you are getting good results with the Daisy pellets, then count yourself lucky.   I have not had good results with them.   As you said , the price is right.

I shot the CFX again today, only about 10' further out. I had leftover small pieces of ceramic to shoot, from quarter to fifty cent piece size. I also added some CPHP's in the mix. They were pretty good too. I took the shots with all the other pellets, one shot per target, about 10-12 targets. Then if I missed a target I would go on to the next one. Then I would load up a Daisy and go back and hit all the targets that I missed. Worked almost every time.I know a lot of it is me. I'm not the best shot, and I shoot standing unsupported. The CFX is a VERY easy airgun to shoot, and very accurate. at least it is to me.I love this gun.
