Am I on the right path?
« on: May 10, 2010, 12:19:27 PM »
Hello, everyone. How are you?

I have a Gamo Big Cat 1200.

I am considering the following:

Leapers AccuShot Swat Classic 3-12 X 44 30mm Tube Mil-Dot Range Estimating Parallax Adjustable Rifle Scope (non-illuminated) (TS Strength Platform).

BKL 1-Piece Mount, 30mm Rings, 3/8" or 11mm Dovetail, 4" Long, 6 Base Screws, Matte Black.

Would this be a good, solid, and secure setup? Whould I still require a scope stop? I don't believe the above has one built in. Is there a bomb-proof 1-piece with a scope stop pin?

I question the height of the mount  being high enough to clear the 44mm objective? If not, what would you recommend? I want to keep the scope as low as possible.

I know this setup is kinda expensive and I do have an entry level air rifle but, optics are important. What do you think?

Thank you.

Stephen

BKL mounts ARE rock solid. You won't need a stop. As long as the scope is not the MINI swat it will fit the mount and should be high enough.

Look's like a great start for scope and mount. something to hang on to those buzzing stock Gamo's a GRT-III trigger is also a plus to the Gamo's if you have one with a steel trigger. Ed

It looks good to me Stephen,

If you clean off the mounting rails with alcohol, and the mount and bolts, you shouldn't have any problems with a 6 screw mount.

If you do, clean it odd again and blue loctite the mount to the rail.

Thank you! I feel better I am making a good choice.

Alcohol, huh? Didn't know a slight wipe down with RemOil before installation would compromise the hold. I have always worried about some corrosion that may form under the mount.

I do have the GRT-III trigger as well. Absolutely transformed the gun!

Thank you, guys.
