I couldn't resist the Model 52 from AOA
« on: June 05, 2010, 07:02:12 AM »
Hey guys, I couldn't resist the Model 52 from AOA for 279, and ordered one on Friday.
I am considering a variable 12x AO scope but am open to suggestions.
I also plan on using the UTG Scope Mount Base (no droop), with Weaver rings.

Can anyone tell me what the max scope length would be, to stay clear of the loading port?
I have a 16x scope on my M-rod, but am not sure if I need that much on the 52.
Target shooting mostly, with some squirrel elimination.

Thanks
Rick

I couldn't resist either. I picked up a Hawke 4x12 Airmax from Richard - "thebookdoc"  with his special setup. http://www.gatewaytoairguns.com/airguns/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=27925&posts=5#M219980.
Works great, short enough to stay away from the port -and it's a real quality scope to boot.
Great gun too,by the way.I'm really pleased with the accuracy on mine.

Yes, thank you, I am aware of the Hawke mounts.

I like the way the UTG has the shock shoulder in the front, because there is no hole for a stop pin.
The bottom is milled out  to fit over the screw head on the 52, and its half the price. It should do the job equally well.

I just installed a BSA 3x12 x50AO air rifle scope on my R52.$50 at Natchez.Used the no droop adapter and Weaver Quad Lock rings from Walmart for $10.I like the Quad Lock rings. Two narrow straps on each mount instead of one wide one. I think they grip better. I have BSA air rifle scopes on my R34 and Big Cat and no problems so far. By the way I used the Weaver high mount but there seems to be enough room to use the medium if you want the scope lower. I can barely see the front sight behind the vertical crosshair. You did good! I bought my R52 from Air Gun Depot for $299 about 2 months ago. It's a horse for an old man.

Yep - saw those Rick. But I couldn't figure out which one to get. I read the reviews on PA, and some folks that got the "drooper" mount said the compensation was too much. But then what if I got a straight and the barrel was a drooper? Suppose I could have bought both, but I didn't want the hassle and cost of sending one back, so I opted for the adjustable.
As far as pellets - I've been staying on the light side - less than 9 gr.  Air Arms 4.52 seem the best - Predators are really good too(as usual). The weather around here has made it tough for shooting -if it's not raining it's been windy, so I haven't shot it as much as I'd like.
Just got an order from PA yesterday - JSB lights, CrowMagnums,Beeman FTS etc. I'll let you know.

   Mark

Well, I called AOA today (Monday the 7th) and they said the 52 is out of stock and they
will not be getting them in till Wednesday or Thursday.

I hate waiting!  I bet I won't get my gun for another month! :0

If I would have known they were not in stock I would not have ordered the gun.
I hope this gun is worth the BS I foresee in my future.  I always get screwed around
on back orders!

Thanks for letting me know. It seems like every time I order a gun from them, they are backordered.
You get put in line but you never know where you are, I had to cancel my last m-rod order after 3 weeks.
But allot of people rave about them and their service.
