Which B26 to install the Vortek in.
« on: June 08, 2010, 07:34:09 AM »
So my Vortek kit is sitting in the Post office waiting for me. And now I have to decide which caliber B26 to install it in. My .177 cal has been tuned and upgraded to the crosman spring and seal and shoots dead all the way out to 50 yards with reasonable FPS for my altitude 760 @ 6,800 FASL.

My .22 cal B26-2 shoots dead on to 35 yards but is very week in the power plant (550 to 600 fps) as I have not installed the crosman gear in it yet (was waiting for Vortek). I have the crosman kit for this gun as well and will install the seal regardless of what power plant I use.

I am leaning towards the .22 cal as I would like to have as much power and usability for this gun as I can get. I am not worried about going over power or too high of FPS due to living at high altitude.

Can anyone chime in with some suggestions for this, also input to get the max velocity from either gun would be nice.

what grain pellet are you using in the .177 it just seems even at that altitude 760 still seems on the low side for a 7.9 or lower. now my thoughts would be for target shooting i would pick the .177 for it gives me longer range and i like to shoot at longer distance 50 - 100 yards. but if it comes to hunting the .22 would be the choice since your most desirable shot comes from 25 - 35 yards and with some knock down. the choice really seems to be what you do the most target or hunt and i would be curious to know the fps spreed across different altitudes i know it slows down but by how much.

Actually shady I am getting far less than that with most pellets. 760 was with the RWS Super HP 6.9 grain. CPL, 7.9 grain are at 710. This is with the crosman seal and piston BTW. I am considering another takedown and inserting a washer or 2 in the top end of the piston to see if it helps.
According to some people on the forums we lose about 2.7 to 3% per 1000 foot above sea level (FASL) so even if I round down to 2% I lose approximately 140 FPS on a gun shooting 1000 fps. Or for an R9 which a B26 is cloned from producing 880 fps 0 FASL I would lose 123 fps giving me 757 fps.

The .22 cal only gets about 570 right now with a 14.3 I guess I should tear it down and install the crosman stuff to get the seal broke in prior to installing the vortek. This is also the one that has the gauge in the chamber.

Even my B28 just gets 995 max with CPL 7.9 grains. Which is just about 100 less than it should 0 FASL.

There are 2 cylinder sizes, 26 and 25MM, unfortunatly I have the 25 and Vortek is selling the 26. We are trading it out for a kit for my B28. It will work out better this way as the B28 is a beast. The B26 in .22 was fitted with the Crosman Quest spring and seal with no real improvement but it only has a couple dozen rounds in it so far.

sorry to hear the vortek kit not fitting and i had no idea the fps spread was that large with altitude change good luck and thanks for the info.
