this morning and 2010. Shocked  Smiley But like the Crow's that have been hitting my place there's a first here also, critters gone wild hehe. I had been home about two hours from a all night hunt which was another slow one and was brewing some Java and waiting for the wife to get home she work's night's. The wife walk's in and tells me that there's a baby Bandit out in the yard eating the seed on the ground. Shocked In disbelief I rushed to the window thinking that the Baby Bandit that a met the other day had found my place and came to visit lol. I peeked out the window and spotted the critter "that ain't no Raccoon honey it's a G-hog". There it was a young G-hog gorging itself on the seed that the birds had kicked out onto the grass. I was pretty excited as I headed for the gun room to pick out a shooter and figuring on the size of this lil guy I grabbed the trusty ole scoped 2240 and loaded a CPHP in her. I then did one more peek out the window to make sure it was still there and it was so I headed for the back door. I inched the door open then slid out onto the deck and as I moved to the corner of the house removed the safety.I took a quick look around the corner then I slowly stepped out and settled the cross hairs on his fusebox. The youngster turned slightly to get a look at me and in the process gave me a perfect shot. I put the cross hairs just in front of his ear and sent a CPHP. The pellet hit home with a loud THWACK! and the G-hog dropped on the spot in the middle of his breakfast plate. His tail went up then slowly down as he expired. It was a 12 yard shot from the back deck and I knew the 2240 was up for the job since I took a young G-hog last year with the 1377. I grabbed the digi cam and shot some pic's of him in the seed pile then moved him over to get several more with the proud 2240. This is my first G-hog of the year and the first that's been in my yard and I checked around my shop for den's but no den's anywhere. I'm thinking that he came from the wood's that run along the back of my place. It's a stretch to come from those wood's and cross a 100 yard grass field but that's gotta be his home out there somewhere. I haven't hunted out there since last year due to the fact that I wanted the critter's to get populated Squirrels and such but I think the G-hog's have moved in out there too.  Smiley Ed

Outstanding shooting with that pistola brother Ed  Smiley   and a super pic.   As you well know if there's one youngster around then there's gotta be a couple more real close  Smiley

That little guy will make some real fine eating...... those youngsters taste just like milk fed veal   Smiley

Way to go with the 2240 Ed!  Nice shot on that little G-hog!  See, I said you 'd get one soon, and this time he came to you, hehe  Smiley

No wonder the crows keep coming.  There's plenty of corn in that seed Smiley  That looks like the "wild life" feed I got last year.  It will attract all kinds of birds, squirrels, and coon sometimes too.  The BlueJays ate most of it and chased the Cardinals and other birds away, so I switched to a different one.

Thanks brothers and Jeff that's what I'm hoping and I did some scouting in the wood's behind my place and found a den next to my two cord's of wood that's stacked for next winter hmmm. Harry that's my home brew blend of seed and I just buy it in the bins at the feed store then mix it in a thirty gallon can. I'll keep blending if the critters keep coming hehehe. Ed

Cool.  What kind of feed do you get at the feed store?  There is a large feed in the next town over but have never been there.  I always thought they would want me to buy volume, or minimum like 500lbs or barrels of the stuff.  I only have a small SUV and not sure I can haul all that stuff.  A 30gal barrel I might be able to squeeze in the back of the SUV Smiley  If it will attract night critters in the winter that is, or crows! hehe  Smiley  maybe they have one for night critter to?  This guy keeps calling me about raccoon skins and every time I try to explain to him that coon season is not until October.  Now that I know he is desperate for the skins I will increase my price because it takes me a long time to skin them so I don't damage the pelt.  The last time he came I sold him the whole coon because I was too tired to pull on that skin that night and he came early in the mornng after I got like 3hrs sleep.  I think I will ask him to make me a hat next time, if he can Smiley

So what is "Ed's famous secret feed recipe"?   Cool

I get 5lbs of corn, 5lbs of black oil or regular sun flower seed, 2lbs of thistle/Niger seed since it's expensive, 2lbs rabbit pellet feed if they have it and a regular cheap bag of wild bird food. I also hit the bakery's or the local store and pick up 2-3 loaves of the cheap day old bread. I pull the bread out and break it up and mix it in and in no time it hardens up and the bird's etc. love it. Ed
