The reason behind the "missing" edit button
« on: September 13, 2007, 04:21:44 AM »

I don't know if you all knew this already, I did a search and didn't find it so here goes.

The reason the edit button is missing is that the site setting have changed.

You now only have 15 minutes after posting, to change your post.

After that, the edit button disappears.... why...I have no idea, but that's what the error
message I got today said. :0

I think that only applies to the the original post. In my opinion its a good thing.

until you notice a typo (correct spelling, wrong word) ... and no, it does not apply only to the original post.

well... I have already lost the ability to edit my previous post on this thread.
Go figure.... Anyhow, I'm just telling you what the error message I got, issued by this system
said. "you only have 15 minutes to edit a message after posting" (Para phrased)

I can include a screen print of it if you would like?

It depends upon which section or "forum" you're posting in . Some allow editing some do not . This one does not allow editing after 15 minutes has past. . kirby

We might want to see if Gene or Bob can lengthen the Edit "window", and make them consistent between the various Gates, unless there's a particular gate that either might not need to typically be edited, or in some cases (like the Classifieds or Bargain Gate) maybe the Edit window needs to be indefinite. I don't know if it's possible since I'm not at all familiar with the administrative setup of these kinds of forums, but I can imagine it's possible.

Maybe when Gene gets settled in at his new place and gets all the windows replaced ;~D, he can think about it and let us know if he thinks it's a good idea.

Bryan... who typically needs several weeks of Edit window to correct mispelings...

RE: Kirby nailed it. It is gate related

no edits after 15 min on the airgun gate. As for the spelling I can't spell so i use the spell check. If I don't spell check owell my point still gets acrossed. It's been proven that we don't recognize the spelling of the word but the number of letters and the first and last letter.:)

I think Gene set it up that way before he left , right after Fritz stole , (uh, borrowed) his glasses ; so he wouldn't miss anything while he was gone. hehehe or until he could get himself a new pair. kirby
