Welcome
« on: February 24, 2008, 02:24:33 AM »
I just wanted to officially thank Gene and Bob for creating the Long Island Shooting Events Discussion Forum.  This will be a great tool for the ever growing ranks of Long Island air gunners.  It will provide a perfect place for Long Islanders and those nearby to meet, make new shooting friends, plan events and help expand the great sport of air gunning  the Long Island area.   As many of you know I live out on the east end of Long Island and am a  new member of L.I.F.T. -"Long Island Field Target"  which is being run and coordinated by Dave at Cobra Airguns in Ronkonkoma NY.   I'm looking forward to meeting the new shooting friends I know this forum will bring together.

Thanks again Gene and Bob.....

hey... Gabe here, in the southshore. It is awesome to find a place with people who share your interest. I have renewed my interest in airguns, although i always sporadically shot my trusty 1377 at cans and the occasional bird/rat. grew up with my dad's diana 34, which is still in the family but has retired to georgia, where it spends more time as a large paperweight... (sigh). my passion for airgunning was re sparked when i found online about cobra airguns, which is 5 minutes away from home. Needless to say, i have spent a ton of time with Dave and the crew, which are the most wonderful and patient staff i could ask for. Now in a matter of 2 months, i have purchased a new diana 34 (nostalgic), which is just as impressive now as it was when i couldn't hold it on my own... Then, i gave myself the pleasure of adding a Sheridan Blue streak, which i coveted for many years, and regard as the ultimate classic airgun. It is FANTASTIC!!! kept it open sights and all, dead on at 30 yards. After the pretty rifles, i needed a "toy", and something i could shoot indoors. So a crosman 1077 joined the ranks. lovely little gun, co2 BS aside... scoped and within 25 yards is a dime size hole puncher (5 shots). And is also fun with the repeating action ( must let it warm up between shots, or your 4th shot and other will be at very low speeds). After all this additions, the 1377 finally deserved a look over, so it got torn apart, cleaned and relubed. Also got a snazzy 1399 stock and became the "clever carbine that fits in a backpack" that it always wanted to be. it shoots around 530 fps with gamp hunters 7.51gr. and is deadly (to pest up to 20 yrds, cans and other cansized targets to 30 yrds...). wait till it's scoped... Then, i got an older, in the box gamo shadow 1000. strong, reliable and very light. i can carry it thru the woods for hours... that one will take a sqirrel down at 40 to 50 yrds every time. it's not pretty, but it is the rifle i'll go to war with... Finally, i made the mistake to "test" a BSA supersport... Holy S#%&!!!! It's all it took. last time i felt that way i married my wife. it was irrational, unnecesary, expensive and at a bad time (economy wise), but i took it home and i don't regret it. it is by far, the best rifle out there. mildly scoped, with a 4x32, headshots at 40 yards are stupid easy. it has his recoil, but not much, it's hold sensitive but not much, it needs pampering, but not much... is a work of art. it is so mellow, i can't believe it shot 930 fps with cpl's. Well, that is my family (airgun wise). I am interested in forming informal shooting groups, maybe get in touch with some other air gunners in the area so that we can exchange ideas, tips on spots for shooting, parts, maintenance and whynot... I hope to be of help to the group as well...

I am another noob to the LI Airgun fraternity.

I have just recently rediscovered the joys of Airguns (from my youth), and am enjoying introducing my two sons ( ages 15 and 13) to this great (and potentially consuming) hobby.
I had the good fortune of finding Cobra Outdoor Sports via internet searches, and am lucky enough to be within ten minutes of the showroom. I walked in one Saturday and had the pleasure of meeting Dave, and so it began again. Dave is a most friendly, informative, knowledgable proprietor who isn't "selling" Airguns, but is more than happy to share his knowledge and passion in the most unassuiming manner. I've purchased some fun guns that my sons and are enjoyg in our modest but functional binackyard range. Looking forward to meeting many of the LI Airgun community, and to gain by sharing the knowledge, information and experiences here on the forums.

Happy Safe Shooting.

Frank

Hi Frank,,,,  nice to have you with us  :)

I was at Cobra this morning visiting with Dave,,,, he also hooked me up with a hose and adapter for my hand pump so I could shoot my new Marauder today.

Will be looking forward to your future posts and hopefully meeting you in person one of these days...

Thank you for the welcome, Jeff. I will look forward to meeting you as well.

I've had the chance to meet a few of the L.I.F.T. crew from my visits to the shop; Shane, Martin, Gabe, Rick K., Victor, Kenny, and a few other fellas who's names I will remember when I see their faces again (I guess my "hard drive" is running out of "disk space"...). I must say that while I am not very surprised to see how wide the interest is in airguns, I feel most fortunate that we are located so closely to such a great resource as Cobra. In my opinion, Dave's shop is more of an "emporium" than a retail, in that while you can purchase anything needed in relation to airguns, we also get the chance to meet, discuss, observe, see, and handle so many different guns, ammo, people, ideas - and it is an environment that seems to foster the sharing and growth of knowledge, experience and passion for the hobby - and it's great to be local to experience this.

As much as I am enjoying rediscovering the fun and challenge of airguns for myself, my real joy is in introducing it to my sons, and the time spent with them doing something new to them that they seem to have picked up quickly and are enjoying. Simple pleasures that can be enjoyed for hopefully many years to come.

See you soon.

Best,

Frank
