"The Peak" Pellets
« on: April 02, 2008, 10:31:10 PM »

Steve Archer's Archer Airguns is selling "The Peak" pellets and his advertising claims accuracy & quality equal to Crosman Premiers in many guns.

I also noted that a single order of differing pellets accumulates shipping charges as though each pellet package was a separate order. The result is that $30 worth of pellets cost over $20 to ship. Maybe Steve needs to rework his shipping calculator.

Please forgive the above distraction.

My question is: Has anybody tried these "Peak" pellets? Are they of uniform weight? Are the pellet heads properly formed and smooth? Are the skirts of uniform shape and size and "flash" free? Could they be a reasonable Crosman plinking and hunting substitute?

They look to be the same as the pellets sold by BAM dealers...

I've only tried the pointed type, and frankly they didn't do well even at 10 yards. However, I never had much luck with pointed pellets ofany sort.

As for uniformity and quality of manufacturing, they certainly looked OK - and better than the last batch of Premier's I'd gotten.

Vince:

Thanks for your input.

My primary interest is in the domed .177 & .22 calibers and I am hoping someone has tried them in several different rifles. I believe the .177 caliber are 8.6 grain which may be better for use in higher velocity rifles. I don't recall what the grain wt. was for .22 cal. - having a "senior moment".

I had the chance to try a few .177 the other day. They were very uniform, with no flashing. I don't have a scale so couldn't check the weight. They were nice enough that I'm ordering a case of .177 and .22. :)

Hey Mike,  I like them so much I’ll go in with you on your next order.  My QB78 and QB88 love them.  I would like to try the .22 in my CFX.  :)  :)  :)

Mike (Splash):

If ordering from Archer, you may want to place that order over the phone to avoid being double billed on shipping. I ordered 6 boxes of Crosman Premiers this morning from DnrSports at $14.88 per box and shipping from Dnr in Penn. to me in central Indiana was only $7.11.

Thanks for you "Peak" assessment.

Oh, if you're in the market for a scale, Harbor Freight has a Cen-Tec brand for $17.99 sometimes on sale for $10.99/$11.99.

Thanks for the heads up on the shipping Mike.

Gary not a problem, if you want to split the order. I'm going to call Cambell's after while and see if they got the .22 Benji's in. I know your CFX and my 2250xt love those. 8)

Gary (Curioguy):

If your QB88 likes them, maybe mine will to.

BTW, does your QB88 have a long wood screw under the rear of the receiver that goes down into wrist?

Thanks for your input on the "Peaks"

You should not have a problem placing an order via internet.  I recently ordered a case of the Peak Domes and was charged $29.95 + $9.95 shipping,  just as advertised.  I have ordered several items from Archer Airguns without a hiccup.

I've used them in different guns good and bad results. As with any gun some will like certain pellets and not like others. The pellets are good I use thema lot in my co2 gun because they are under 14 grs in .22. I asked Steve to build a sampler pack which I believe he still has listed for sale. The sampler is 2 tins of each type in both calibers. You get 2 domes and 2 wadcutters in .177 and .22. If you decide you don't like the sampler pack that way call him he will build it what ever way you want it. We have become so dependant upon computers that we forget about calling and talking to someone directly.  They are great people to deal with. I've never had a problem with them.

Jason:

Thanks! I had no idea he would custom build a case like that. It keeps the shipping cost down to $9.95.

I tried to put together an on-line order of 4 tins of .177, a couple tins of .22 all domes and a couple tins of .177 wadcutters and the shipping totaled about $20. So now you know where I was coming from.

Thanks Again!

I bought a case of peak pellets from archer.  I have tried them in only one gun, the b26-2 .22 cal. domed.    they are very good at up to 20 yards.  I do not recommend them for ranges any furthor, they just plain suck.  close up they are as good as a premier.  they are harder to see in flight because of the dark color.   at 50 yards they are next to impossible to hit anything.  I have on my list of to-do's a reseal of a 2240 with a 2260 barrel and tube. I do not expect any improvement with a 100 fps increase of speed.   John
