Crosman 2100 vs Daisy Powerline 880
« on: May 15, 2008, 05:03:06 AM »
OK, I'm sure this has been asked before, but In your opinions how do they compare? Accuracy, Power, etc. I've had 2100's but never tried an 880.

Thanks....James

personally, since I have shot both, I prefer the crosman 2100 (classic). the trigger is better, less recoil.

daisy was louder.

both are similar in terms of accuracy, but I'd give the edge to the crosman. I've taken out 108 tree rats with the crosman at distances of 60-100 ft. with just the irons......so I know its a good one. I haven't tried to do that with a daisy (belongs to my dad). the daisy seems to have a "comfort zone" of 10-20 yards. past that we don't know where its going to go. maybe we just got a bad one.

I think the daisy is slightly heavier in terms of weight, but not too much, not enough to worry about.

in terms of longevity I really can't say. I don't think either was intended to last forever. I think they're both pretty cheap to replace (a crosman 2100 classic goes for $56 at fleet farm around here). I do have to replace the pumpcup on my crosman, but it has had a tremendous workout. I shot that poor thing every single day for months on end.........Still have it too.

Well dispatch pigeons and starlings at 50 to 60 feet. I see the Daisy 880 at about every sporting goods department around here no 2100's. The Daisy 880 runs about 35.00 I think at Wally World with a little scope. The 2100 would have to be bought online, about 60.00 plus shipping. I was curios about the performance vs price I guess.

Thanks.....James

Well, the 2100 is more powerful. I like the looks of the 880 better. I've shot both. I have a 2100. It's been a good one since 1985. I don't think you're getting hurt by buying either one. I say get the 880 and if it doesn't do what you want, buy the 2100 and I'll buy the 880 from you. Or it could be the start of the hobby for you. I'm thinking about getting the .22 version of the 880.

I'm thinking about getting one of the 880s for that kind of price. I like them both. That Powerline 880 was the shizznit back in the day, until the 2200/2100 came out. It's still a darned good buy. Heck, for that price, buy 2 of them.

The Daisy 880 is almost all plastic and made in China.
Dick's Sporting Goods carries the 2100, if there are any near you. If not, instead of ordering online, take a look at the Remington Airmaster 77 at Wal Mart. It is basically the same gun as the 2100 and has a scope. Yeah, it's about $70 but there's no shipping and if something is wrong it's easier to return. The 2100/Airmaster has a metal receiver and pump mechanism and is a much sturdier gun than the plastic 880. The scopes on both guns are not the greatest.
A few of my son's friends have 880's. The stock seems to work loose or break off where it attaches to the receiver. A friend of mine at work has an old 880 that has a metal receiver and pump lever. Now that is a nice gun! :) But you won't find a gun like his at Wally World for $35! :(
I have a Crosman 2200 (.22 version of the 2100) and if the 2100/Airmaster is as good as the 2200, that's the way to go.
I will say the one drawback to the 2100/2200/Airmaster is loading the gun. It can be tricky at times to get the pellet in the loading port.

If you are looking to take any small game at all I would not hesitate to get the 2100.  Havent tried the daisy but the 2100 with crosman pointed pellets has been a deadly combination for me.  I have taken plenty of squirrels and rabbits with it, once had to take down a diseased raccoon that was on my neighbors deck snarling at them thru their window. That took two headshots from 15 yards.  Not bad for a ten year old pumper. If you get the 2100 you will not be dissappointed.         Peejay

I've thought about getting a benjamin 392 to go along with my 2100. I also thought about getting the Daisy 22SG. The Benji is  more expensive but, I believe, more powerful. Not like I need another damned air rifle.
