After gettin my gun back and sighting her in all afternoon I set up shop in the kitchen tonight. She is shootin dime size patterns at 30 yds and i felt real confident that i could do the deed. The hunting has been slow since the weeks of slaughter have passed and i needed some satisfaction for the funds that i have put in this weapon.
So I set out the small game feed spiked with dog food and got my stand ready. 12 pack, chips, extra pack of smokes and snack sticks.
They have been very skittish from the pressure, but hey its saturday night and i got time...lol.
A few small ones came scurrying out from the darkness but I was waiting on something to give the new gun a better rep.
That when i saw him. By the size of this rodent i knew it would be the perfect initiation for the newly tuned weapon..
Also i was worried about a run off because of his size. So I knew it would have to be a neck /spine shot to stop him in his tracks.
There he was under the smoke house and peering at the bait. My barrel was out the window and I knew he was fixin to make his run for the bait..
Now they only stay put for a split second while pickin a tastey morsel and i would have to be quick.. Thats when i decided to just put the crosshairs on the bait and just wait till he made his move.. He came in to view and i was on him like a rat on a cheeto.. PHAAAAT i LET HER RIP..
dirty deed done....
Right throught the neck and he didn't even move..
The Whisper IS SWEET..

Love the hunting storys..Yous seem to have such a wide range targets wandering around yer yards.
Birds are all I have in the yard and the cats chase them away before I can get a gun.

Randall, we gotta hang-out some time! You're about a six hour drive from here. I keep checkin' surfline.com to see what the water's doing. I'm a California transplant in Tejas and I miss getting out and shreddin' the waves! Might have to take some time off and go on a surf and shooting excursion! Picked up this years hunting/fishing license combo yesterday. All I need is saltwater stamp I can fish the shores.
You ever do any fishing buddy?

I tell ya this gun is super sweet now.. For a Low priced air rifle it sure has turned out to be a nice shooter.. Altho I say low priced, it started out that way, I now have added a couple hunert more into it.. The original cost of the gun was 229.00 . Add 35 for trigger kit. 69.00 for hunting scope with laser, 20.00 to ship it to Iowa and 50.00 for Mike to tune it and install the new parts, and 40.00 for wooden stock,[ which makes it heaver and shoot more solid] I have a 500.00 gun now, and it shoots like one.
It helps to have the night vision scope beside me so I can see them comming in from the fence line heading my way.. It gives me time to get the gun ready and get in position for a quick shot. Believe me when i tell ya quick shot..
They don't stay in 1 place to long and there have been many shots that were at the spot they just were.. Timing is super important, you need to be on the spot where they are going before they are, waiting for him to move into the crosshairs..
Its been some of the most fun and Challenging hunting I've ever done.

Nice shot placement! I love a pic of a dead rat :-) It's the only way to look at them..
I can't stand pics of live rats. They should always be on their side with some "red splatter" on them :)
-
Hey Harry,, I must agree with you on that!! Unless,,,,,, Randalls wife, like ours,, is missing some red "Nail Polish"?? He He He!!!!! Tim.

Ugh, I was just taking my first bite of breakfast when I scrolled down to your pic. I never seen anything like that in these parts (central Fl.).
I wonder if our squirrels are ok to eat? They look so much like a rat I can't quite bring myself to skin and clean them. I have a huge mango tree in the yard it bears several hundred delicious mangos in season. This year we harvested a total of one! The squacks get in the tree all day long and pick out the nicest one and take a bite then oops it fell! So instead of going down to the ground where the could enjoy a nice fresh mango they go for another one and oops ... You get the idea. So this year I have determined to thin the herd before the mangos come to fruit.

That escapee is dead. I find rats and mice are very fragile....it seems their bones, joints and flesh are very soft so they can squeeze into little cracks and holes. One hit with a pellet and it'll most likely cause some kind of internal damage....unless you hit it on it's ear or tail. heh heh Just hope it crawls into some deep hole....so it's decaying body won't smell up your area.
-
They sound like deer. I read somewhere that a pair of deers can ruin an acre of corn in one night. They would nibble on one corn and then go on to another for the whole night. SOCIETY NEEDS MORE HUNTERS!!!!!
-
Hey Tim, speak for yourself buddy!! :-) We keep seeing the same racoon over & over.. what's up with that? hehehe You look at my g-hogs and they all have different shades of brown, black, white, grey, different colors on their head, etc.
Your bandits all look the same with those black rings around the eye! Just busting.. :)
