: Erskine would be proud

This weekend, after getting home Sunday afternoon, I went out to call my daughter to come home and eat supper. As I walked out the driveway, I noticed a squirrel laying in the road. when I approached it, it started moving. Turns out it was a baby BT that apparently fell from the neighboors front yard oak tree. Poor little critter was dragging its hind legs, and had a swoolen area around the lower rib cage. Looked to be some internal damage as well. Took a stick and it latched on and welped something awful. Quickly I carried it over to the shrubs and layed it down. Decided to leave it for a while and when I came back to check on it, it hadn't moved at all. Just a distant look in its eyes and some shallow breathing. That was it for me. I'd had enough of seeing this poor animal suffering, grabbed the Markman 0035and quickly dispatched it witha Beeman SB to the back of it's head. Jumped a bit, and loaded another SB, but by then it was over, but still gave the fuse-box one more to make sure.Kinda sad that it didn't reach a good age to hunt, but that's how it goes sometimes. One thing that's bothered me about this, is I've shot other BT's with head-shots, and they seem to do a longer 'death-dance' thanwith ashot to the lung/heart area. I reckon this baby BT just made it worse. tjk

While back, I posted a thread that drew some heat from the above mentioned individual. I think he irked alot of folks with his comment, and in turn some of the GTA Family, in a way "backed me up" with thier own retaliation. But I did what I could to smooth things over, and as far as I'm concernned it's  just water under the bridge. Good to see you back Erskine, and don't worry Sir, Ain't no hard feelings. Hope your guns have been shooting true and accurate!! I still debate/struggle with where to hit them nutters though. Just had better experience with organ shot quick kills than the 'fuse-box' as brother Shadow says. LOL's But I reckon it's a "what works the best for you" method. I will say this to all the "noggin' knockers" (with all due respect of course), I've had more BT's drop faster with a heart/lung shot than right in the bean. Just don't like that dancing and death breathing while they're lights are going out. Do you folks aim below the eyes, behind the eyes, or under the ears? I aim for the area just behind the arm pit, and they drop like apples from a tree. One think I'm certain we'll all agree on,..................... is how good they taste!!! Feels like crock-pot season's has finally arrived. Yee-Haaaa, tjk

It's better to put em down quickly if possable then have em suffer, being raised on a farm we had to put down our share of animal's. Fusebox shot, a line back from the eye and a line down from the ear, the kill zone.:) Ed

Thanks tjk, now that you mention the "incident" about the head-shot and body-shot quarrel....I remember reading about it. As for me....I "take out" my birds (Haven't shot any furry creatures yet....)with a body shot....I'm not confident enough with a head shot......don't want a chance of a wounded bird having to suffer a few days before dying. Kudos to the people who can do a head-shot.
