: No rest for em
: shadow September 17, 2008, 08:15:08 AM
Another fine day of sun and warm weather told me to get out and keep after em so I grabbed the ShadowSport, she hasn't hunted since I tuned her and she's smooth and hitting hard so I loaded a Predator and headed out. I decided to hit the wood's out back of my place since I've left it alone for awhile to let the varment's get comfy hehe. Camoed up I moved silently into the canapy of tree's , today would be a walk and stalk hunt so I ever so slowly weaved my way down the varment trail. I alway's look before I step, one crack of a branch or the sound of stepping on dead leaves is like yelling to all the critter's " HERE I AM" run now cause I'm coming hehe. I kneeled down to take a break and to do a scan for any movement and was just injoying how the sunlight filters it's ray's through the tree's when I spotted movement to my side, up and out at twenty or so yard's. I do the" I don't see you" move and slowly started to move forward again, he's flanking me as he moves from limb to limb and following me hmmm. Up ahead stand's a big ol stump so I moved upto it and dropped down behind it and just layed motionless waiting to see what his next move was. The sound of limb's shaking was telling me that he was on the move so slowly I raised myself up and at the same time slide the ShadowSport onto the stump and there he is working his way back and forth on several limb's trying to get a good look at me, let me help. I popped the safety off and crosshair's placed on his fusebox, tail twitching but just for a fleeting moment as the Predator found it's mark once again. He free fell about twenty feet, hit the earth and quivered for just a moment. In my focused hunting Zen state I didn't realize that black ant's were using me as a JungleJim so I brushed off what I could and headed over to collect my harvest which came to rest at twentyfour yard's. Between the pic and cleaning of the nutter I continued to remove ant's from myself and pretty much most of my walk back to the house lol. The trial's of hunting, Ma Nature alway's has something new for you and you gotta love her.:) I had to shower with the ant's before I could post my hunt, hope I got em all hehe. Ed

Good job stalking the nutter Ed and nice shot to the circuit breaker.
Is that your hat next to your harvest?  No wonder he couldn't locate you.  Are you in there too somewhere?  :-)

Hey what's that red thing behind the squirrel?  Looks like a slab of beef.. are you sure you weren't hunting fox or coyotee? :)

Thank's Harry, yup that's my ol hunting hat with some leafy to break up thing's. That's a Red rock but it does look like a slab of critter meat hehe. I've seen one Red Fox here awhile back, I was coming home from second shift work one night and there he was standing in the middle of the street looking at me. I did a double take cause he was in the city but animal's are known to travel the street's after dark, raiding garbage and domesticated animal's so watch your house critter's. Ed

Them those yankee 'fox' squirrels Ed?!? How do they taste? We only got greys around these here parts. Studied the pix closely, so the next fuse-box shot I attempt, I'll go for the same area. Thanks for the tip!!!! Thomas

Another fine hunt and pic Ed.   I know I've said it before but I love the coloring on those nutters.....

Ya had me "itchen" with the mention of the ants,,,,,  brought back memories of an incident I had back in 1975 when I was living in Florida.   Inadvertently found myself standing on a fire ant nest I didn't realize was there,,,,,,  you never saw a grown man strip in public so fast in your life, boy did I feel stupid !!!!!

Anyway,,,, back onto hunting,,,,, loved the hunt story,,,, could almost see the nutter moving as I read.   Keep whacken buddy and keep posting those pics....

Jeff

The squirrel`s going to feed you.  Who`s going to feed the ants?  You of course.  Reminds me of that famous line from "The Lion King"....The Circle of Life.   Excellent hunt....

Once I was mountainbiking and something on the bike broke...so I had to stop and fix it.....took about 20 minutes.  I was eaten alive by mosquitoes.  If you don`t scratch...the bite won`t get infected.  Of course I scratched a few...and they got all bumpy and itchy.  For a few days whenever I felt an itch.....I would jump up and look all around the room or where-ever I was to see if there was a mosquitoe.  heh heh  I know what you mean.......
