Well, There I was, enjoying a nice cool morning, about 8:30 and 65 F, hunting in my favorite Orange orchard for squirrels and blackbirds, when out of the corner of my eye was this jackrabbit. Now, I was there to try out my Uncle's new Crosman quest 800. He bought it for his daughter and wanted me to sight it in, break it in, and so on. I've had it for about a week and put about 500 shots through it using the cheap Crosman pointed pellets that leave your fiingers black. Anyway, i've not had much success in the accuracy department with this combination. I was digging through my shed and found this old box of Beeman Silver Jets in .22, so this was a perfect opportunity to try something new. Long story short, 5 shots and a few scope adjustments later and it's dead on at 35 yds.
Back to the story...
I was patroling the orchard using this quest instead of my RWS 45, and saw this jackrabbit. Had I been hunting with my 45, I would have just sighed and moved on, knowing full well that he was out of range. Sure, I could hit him, but he'd probably hop away laughing at me. But Now I have the Quest 800 in hand. He was facing my right when he saw me, and I knew he was spooked, since he hunched down and prepared to run. I held my crosshairs over his head about and inch and let the lead loose, just then he started to move, but the pellet struck him in the neck, just below the right ear, and went through the base of his ear and into his skull. It made a sound like someone breaking a pencil. He went down, started rolling on the ground, made a huge leap straight up in the air and came to rest on his left side. It was over. I walked off the distance at 42 yds.
For such a light rifle, and in a stock condition, it shoots well. Like I said...I'm Impressed.

Gruesomely beautemous! Nice shootin' there buddy! Looks like you had a bleeder on your hands. Have to admit that I'm quite impressed with that Quest as well. Jack's are fun- I nailed a couple when visiting my mom in New Mexico this last 4th of July. Bunny's on the BBQ!

How many fps are you getting out of the Quest 800 in .22? What`s the advertised fps.....we all know those quotes are about 10 to 20% higher....we`ll use it as a reference and deduct accordingly.
-
I have no idea how many FPS. I don't have a chrony. It's advertised as 800 FPS.

Nice shooting Jonathan!!! Wow 42 yards, You might want to think about going to the store and get another one to give back to your uncle :) Nice jackrabbit, looks like a tasty critter..
-

Nice shot and by the look in his eye that .22 still had a bit of a impact......

Thanks all! I can only imagine the punch that a RWS 350 packs! But at one third the price, I may have to go for a Quest. It seems be faster than my RWS 45 too. I carried the Quest around today for 3 hours...no sweat.

Forgot to mention....that looks like one of those newly discovered "Red Eared Bunny". lol

Fantastic shootin Jon and it sure look's you hit one of his life lines with all the blood, great pic.:) I miss having the Jack's around like back west, thank's for sharing your fine hunt with us. Ed
