: Braggin' on my dog.

Yesterday I took three squirrels and my dog got one.  We are infested here.  Of late I have been able to count a dozen tree rats in the yard pretty much any time I look out the window.

I've been "saving" them for cooler weather but from time to time I will take one.  I just don't want to have to clean squirrels every day.  I'd rather shoot enough to make cleaning them worth while.

Well, Sassy, my female German Shepherd Dog, cornered one under the car yesterday.  When he made a break for it, she chased him down and finished him off right quick!  Wifey called and told me that she put the squirrel on a saw horse and that it had an "eye" sticking out of it's neck and that the "eye" was moving, LOL!  I told her that is what they call a "wolf" in Texas and a "Bot Fly" in Virginia.  It is a fly larva that is laid in the critter's body (only seen it in rabbits and squirrels in warm weather) which grows up and eventually exits the critter, leaving the critter none the less for wear.  She (wifey) said she thought it might be an alien coming out to jump into her body and so she wanted nothing to do with it.  ROFLMAO

Well, I figured I have to clean the little bugger, I might as well get a couple of his buddies and then it will be worth my time.  So I shot three more in about twenty minutes.  That makes five this month.

No I don't have pictures of the squirrels but I do have pictures of the ziplock bags full of them if you need proof. ;)

Oh yeah, the reason that I wanted to brag on the dog?  She absolutely trashed that squirrel in two bites.  Wifey said that Sassy grabbed the squirrel, shook it once and spit it on the ground.  Sassy looked at it and it wiggled so she picked it up again, shook it again and it was over.  I cleaned the squirrel. Its hips, spine and shoulders were crushed.  About half its ribs were broken.  That dog tenderized that squirrel and then handed it over to wifey.

After I cleaned it, I gave her the right arm.  She is a good dog and she earned it.

Good story!  Reminds me when i was pickin off a few quail and my dog raced across my view through the score, blocking my shot. I was *_*_*_*_*_*ed at first but as soon as I looked up she had a Quail in her mouth and had already broken its neck and was shaking it to death. She got half the breast, lol shes a better hunter than me!
