This morning I went out looking for some squirrel action, and found this little fella peeking at me from his burrow. He caught a 14.7 grain Beeman (H&N) Field Target Special with his neck from about 30 yds. I actually shot 3 today, but two were on the other side of Barbed wire fences.
Also, I found the remains of a squirrel on the same barbed wire fence. I think had a date with a Red Tailed Hawk. There are a lot of them in the area.

Good shooting! What do these ground squirrels eat in the desert?
That dead squirrel hanging there looks like he tried to climb an electric fence :-)

It's not really desert. What you can't see is about 100 ft away is a Cherry orchard. About 500 ft away is an Orange orchard. There is no shortage of food or water. However, I do see that the pics make the viewer thirsty.

Good shooting.I'm glad to see that someone else goes after these ground rats.

Fantastic shot and the pic's tell the story, that one has been hangin there awhile hehehe. One way to dry out a hide for sure.:) Ed

Excellent shooting at the ground squirrels. They must be very hard to see as their fur colour looks almost like the colour of the ground. That`s one thing with nature....if the prey don`t move...the hunter might just walk pass them. The hung up squirrel looks like someone put him up there for Halloween.

I' d driven by that squirrel jerky for 2 months before I decided to have a closer look. I thought it was just an old plastic bag or something that got caught on the fence in the wind. Obviously I was wrong.
