...I got my 220 back.
They did not send me another gun - the guy on the phone indicated that they would - and I have no idea what they did to this one. The barrel no longer points to the left, I have a suspicion that they just bent it. Don't know if the velocity is any better or not, I won't get a chance to check it out until tomorrow at the earliest. Hopefully, they popped a new spring and/or seal in it as well.
We'll see...

Dang Vince
Send it to me and I will check it out fer ya..:)

The barrel DOES still point to the left. And it doesn't seem to shoot any harder than it did before.
So, the guy on the phone tells me that yes, certainly, the barrel cant and the low velocity are both warrantable items. So I spend the money to return, it takes over 4 weeks to get it back, and they didn't do a stinkin' thing to it.
So I gotta give 'em an earful tomorrow. I can just imagine them telling me to return it yet again...

How do you know that the barrel is really bent? Do you have some precision way to check it?
I have a 24 inch precision machinist’s ruler and I check it by laying the ruler on edge and clamping it to each side of the barrel pivot block and measure it with a dial caliper, even then it’s very hard to measure it closely. If it's off a few thousands there is nothing Gamo will do about it because no barrel is perfect. It's called manufacturing tolerances.
If you are going by eyesight, or how far you have to crank the scope adjustment. Not accurate at all, to many variables to cope with.
If shoots good and where you aim it why worry.
-
I haven't shot this thing with a scope.
I don't think that the barrel is really bent. I suspect that it's bad machining somewhere. Regardless, looking over the top of the gun, you can see the barrel pointing to the left. It's not reidiculous, but my wife is not a gunsmith, and SHE noticed it. I've no trouble putting up with this on a $20 Cummins B3, but not on a Gamo.
Besides, I explained the situation to the guy on the phone... and he told me that if you can tell just by looking at it, that's a warrantable claim. So is the low velocity. And so, at their direction I sent it in... and they did nothing about either issue.
I'm gonna try raising heck with them tomorrow. Sending it back is not an option (unless they pay all shipping charges), so I don't know what if anything they'll do about it.

If you have some kind of straight edge to see if it's the barrel in the pivot block or is the whole pivot block crooked in the breach, like maybe the pivot hole is drilled off center.
The way the pivot block is held in the breach is it only screws to one side of the slot in the breach. The shims could be different thickness and push the barrel off center.

Vince, it sounds like someone fouled up as Gamo. A couple of years ago I had a CFX and it was shooting in the low 700"s with 7.9 gr pellets....definitely low velocity. I had sent it back to Gamo and they sent me a new gun. Keep at them, I'm sure they'll replace it.
-
...but it would still be parallel to the compression tube.
The barrel isn't shifted to the left, it's actually angled to the left.
-
I talked to some guy at Gamo today, and he informed me that his "system is down" and he couldn't find anything out for me at the moment. He was going to investigate and call me back, which he never did. I called later in the afternoon, and could not get through to anyone.
In any case, he told me that if I sent it back and specifically requested another gun they would do that. Thing is, they already TOLD me that the gun would get replaced the FIRST time I sent it in.
I know it was only an $80 refurb... maybe that's why I'm getting short shrift.
-
Well, they have no record as to what, if anything they did to it. I was told that I can send it back AGAIN (at my expense, of course) and that this time they would replace it. Really they will. Honest.
Might give 'em one more shot at it. If the finish on the wood stock wasn't so crappy, I'd probably just take care of it myself...
-
Keep at 'em vince. I can see a shiney new 220 coming back to ya.....got my fingers crossed 8)
-
They should get it middle o' next week. That gives them the excuse of having Thanksgiving for not getting around to looking at it for 3 weeks...
