: Hunting question
: Schmidty25 November 12, 2008, 11:10:41 AM
I have a Crossman G1 Extreme  i am using the crossman Hollow points, they seem to group well and have good expansion when shooting the phone book.  My question is do you think it's powerful enough to take down a duck or a goose with a head shot?
: Re: Hunting question
: dave2288 November 12, 2008, 11:12:46 AM
which hollow points?  cp's, or the eagle ones?  with cp's, yea, you should be able to, within range...my g1 has taken a couple turkeys in the back yard

I am using the Premiers.. I also have gamo hunters, crossman destroyers, gamo rockets, gamo pba, crossman pointed...   I can get to about 20 yds..

: dave2288 November 12, 2008, 11:27:51 AM
well, as long as you're not using the raptor pba ammo, any of those outta work at that distance.  AS LONG AS YOU GET THE RIGHT SHOT!  when i went after turkeys, i shot about 1/3 down the neck...dao

: Schmidty25 November 12, 2008, 12:01:29 PM

You might want to check your local hunting regs before you go duck hunting with an air rifle. While Illinois law permits the use of air rifles by including them in the definition of a gun, it also specifically states that it is unlawful to use rifle, handgun or airgun to take game birds or migratory game birds. Thus it is legal to hunt squirrel, rabbit, woodchuck (groundhog) raccoon, opossum, fox, coyote, skunk with an air rifle. I do think that if really stinks that Illinois includes crows not only as a pest but also as a game bird, making it illegal to hunt crows with an air rifle.

Illinois really needs to check the regs again, by including crow as a game bird the regs go on to state that you can only take them if they are in flight. What morons!!!!

I always follow the letter of the law,, as we all know,, our "BB Guns" are just not able to efectivly take game like "Boom Boom" guns. Gots me a 70 lb. compound bow though!!LOL!! Hmmmmmm,,?? Tim.

Boy I have not seen many crow the last two years in will county and southern cook. I think that the west nile took a lot of them out.

That G-1 of yours has more than enough power to kill a duck or goose with a head shot, matter of fact a head shot will take them out so quickly they won't know what hit em.   The problem lies in the legality of it.  General waterfowl hunting regulations are set by the federal government.  One of the basic regs is that lead shot/pellets cannot be used to take waterfowl so that would right off the bat negate legally using any lead based air gun pellet.  There are many other regulations contained in the federal waterfowl mandates that might also pose a problem, but the G-1 is certainly capable of taking out a duck or goose with a good head shot......

Yeah,, what "Long Island Hunter" said,,,Its not legal. I would not ever shoot a Duck,,Goose,, Turkey,, Deer,,Ect with a "BB Gun". Its MUCH better to shoot them with at least a 12 ga. shotgun. "BB Guns" just dont have enough power for hunting them critters!!LOL!! Tim.

Whack a duck in the head with anything harder than a spit ball
and it will drop like a stone.
They have a very light skull and bone structure a requirement for flight.

A Evanix & a 29gr pellet and theres no head no more.
No head = No noise ,  No unwanted attention.
IDEA... just tie a bit of bread to the end of the barrel they are that dumb they will
try and eat it...Yer can't miss
Not that I would ever do that of course, that would just be naugthy.

: dave2288 November 13, 2008, 06:46:20 AM
hmmm....i still say its up to the skill of the shooter(not debating legality...but the oompf of the g1)...the turkeys i shot went down easy(and no i wasn't hunting them for food...they were eating up my cat...just get their attention for a sec, and they stand up not moving, then take em out!....so, it was legal to do for me)  also, idk how it is for your guys, but near me, we are being OVERRUN by turkeys.  there are 5 different flocks(?) that end up passing my property eithin a week...one is REALLY big, must have 30 in it.  startin to see turkeys on the side of the road instead of deer...
: Re: Hunting question
: Schmidty25 November 13, 2008, 12:18:03 PM
yea It's not legal to take ducks with a pellet gun.  Especially because of the Lead pellets.  But it's also illegal to speed.  and everyone does it???
: Re: Hunting question
: airgun/cuz November 13, 2008, 12:41:18 PM
Not everyone does it,,,,,there are some that follow hunting laws/regs.....there are also many that obey the speed limit..
: Re: Hunting question
: Timmyj1959@yahoo.com November 13, 2008, 12:59:31 PM
Well,,,,, I DONT speed,,,,, I dont use airguns to hunt.???????? I do however,,,, get to where Im goin pretty fast,,,, & I Eat pretty good:? The laws should change pertaining to airgun hunting,,, then again,,,, Ooooppps,, bye bye air guns!!LOL!! Catch 22 Folks. I like it how it is now,,Doubt I will have any dificulty showing my local Game Warden the efectivness of my airguns:? (Course She is a Friend of mine:?) I know the limitations of my airguns,,, I adhere to those limitations. (Mostley) He He!! Tim.
: Re: Hunting question
: dave2288 November 13, 2008, 01:00:22 PM
well, to be honest, i don't follow the speed limits a lot of the time, but i only go after stuff that is either legal, or destroying my stuff/hurting my pets, which then makes it legal.
: "Young Dave",,
: Timmyj1959@yahoo.com November 13, 2008, 01:17:06 PM
LOTS of "Grey Area" there my Friend:? Honestly,, all jokes aside Buddy,,, there is a HUGE "Gray Area" about airguns now. Some things like,,, "Single progectiles" to Turkeys will almost certainly get Ya in trouble in most states that dont allow that,,, however,,, when it comes to Deer & such,,, (Larger Game),, Kinda hard to lose in court if Ya have a huntin license & shoot em with a "Big Bore" with over 200 Ft. Lbs.. (I been lookin into it) Im NOT condoning such actions,,, Im just sayin,,,,"Keep it real". Heck,,, many states now permit small game airgun hunting!! "Old Tim"
: Re: Hunting question
: dave2288 November 13, 2008, 01:22:08 PM
tim, in my area, anything that is either a danger to your property, or your animals/family, and will not leave is allowed to be a target.  my state isn't too strict about this kind of situation, but communities are around here.  the community next to me, you can't do anything, even if something is attacking you...if a bear comes after you, and you pull out a s&w 500 magnum, you'll go to jail.  i'm sure glad i live a few hundred feet over from them, lol.  i'm VERY protective of my kitties.
: Re: Hunting question
: dave2288 November 13, 2008, 01:24:29 PM
besides, tim, not all of us have a big red truck!lol!
: Re: Hunting question
: Timmyj1959@yahoo.com November 13, 2008, 01:46:51 PM
Young Dave,, (LOL) Yer a trip Buddy,,,Your a refreshing member here Bro!! Yeah,,, I am protective of my kittys as well,,, I dont take kindly to threats to them. The "Law" is subjective at best. Just that some of the "Gray Areas" dont need to be exploited "too much":? Its up to us to be responsible hunters/protectors.  Im not tryin to be a bad influence on Ya,,, the laws are pretty clear,,,, we dont need to push our luck:? Honestly,,, I do keep a current hunting license & adhere to the laws. "Threats" to your property,, ("Percived"),, are a differant issue:? "Old Tim".
: Re: Hunting question
: dave2288 November 13, 2008, 02:04:22 PM
hmmm...all good points tim.  i would get arrested for my cats, but if there's no issue, i don't go after anything outside.  i've watched plenty of times as the turkeys(and MANY other animals) just walk through my yard, and don't do anything to em...but even if there was a bear attacking my cats, i'll take the g1(well...maybe the patriot) and the machete and have at it!
: Re: Hunting question
: dave2288 November 13, 2008, 02:11:40 PM
lol, when it comes to bears, i've gone after em for less than that, actually...a few years ago, i was digging holes for my deck, and a bear came out into my yard, and started pushing the pipes in my turkey mound...if those broke, i would have to fix it..so, lmao i chased it...not really sure what i wouldda done if it turned towards me, but lucky for me, it ran.
