Had some free time this afternoon, and while I would've liked to have gone small game hunting the weather was just not cooperating, so I decided to take the Daisy 1000 out to the back yard and try the rest of my .177 pellets and see how they flew. When I first got it I set up the scope and sighted it in using Crosman Premier Hollow Points. They performed well, and still do, but I wanted to try my other pellets.
Here are the results:
Predators: Could not get good groups no matter what I did. It was windy today, and perhaps that had someting to do with it, so I'll give them another try on a calm day. I had the same result when I first tried them in my 1250 and it was windy that day also. Next calm day they shot fantastic.
Crow Magnums: Fair groups, but not tight enough for me to consider using them for hunting.
Crosman Pointed: Fair to poor groups.
GAMO Rockets: Poor accuracy/groups.
GAMO Tomahawk: Very good accuracy and grouping, will be trying them out hunting very soon.
RWS Superdome: Best pellet perfromance of the day. Nice tight bullseye group, even with the wind that was blowing. Below is a pic of the Superdome target. It's a 10 shot group from 20 yards. The 2 high impacts were my fault, I jerked the trigger on both shots.
I'm in the process of setting this gun up as my duck farm "workhorse". Yesterday I ordered a laser/light attachment for the scope so I can night hunt for the raccoons and foxes that have been killing ducks. The raccoon/fox hunts will all be at close range so I think this gun will work fine. I'll give the Predators another try and see how they do, but right now it looks like I'll be shooting either Superdomes or CPHP's out of the gun on my hunts. If the weather clears up I'll take it squirrel hunting tommorow and see how it works on real targets.
