: Scope recomendation
: riflejunkie November 19, 2008, 01:16:10 AM
I have really started getting hooked on shooting my Gamo Shadow which right now has a Simmons 22 Mag 4X32 scope on it.  I'm wanting a better scope and my primary purpose in using this Shadow is target practice and maybe trying to take out a few woodchucks or squirrels.  I do ultimately want to try my hand at field target so I'm thinking that maybe I should get a scope that will be like what I would use in that. I'm pretty clueless about scopes since I primarily shoot with target apertures and any suggestions will be appreciated.  With the rings I have now there is no way to put a scope on this rifle with more than about a 40-44 mm objective lens.

I've had great luck with Leapers scopes.  I think they have a 3x9x40 scope,,,, although I usually buy the 3x9x32 which is really like for my application which is hunting.......

I think BSA has a 3x12x44 scope also,,,,, I don't own one but I know Gene has remarked several times that's it's one of his favorite scopes.

I'm sure others will chime in with more info/choices......

I got this one at Wal Mart for $69.00 I like it, but the base/mount that comes with it would have to be replaced as it will not fit the rail on your air rifle/.22 rifle

I am really surprised at the quality of this scope, it looks like it would cost a lot more than it does.

Thanks guys for the heads up on Hawke and Leapers.  I like the 2-7, 3-9, & 6X32 with AO's.   What's the deal with the illuminated reticle?

Never cared about them before.after putting one on my 34 it turns out to be a pretty useful tool in low light or if your zoomed in on a dark object.

Junkie,

Natchez Supply still has the Bushnell Trophy 4 - 12 x 40 A/O scopes on sale for $89.95. Great scope and a super great price. Good luck.

I've got at least three (oops, two) of these 3-9x50 Center Points on my PCPs.  I love 'em.  $60 in the door.  Nice seller on ebay.  Parallax adjusts down to 5 yards.  Big bug buster.  Beauty to look at IMO.  Just like Leapers claims waterproof, shockproof, fogproof.  See in the dark.  Mil dot.  On off lighted red/green reticle.  Ebay search terms are Center Point Scope once this listing expires.

: Bushnell Sportsman 4-12 X 40 AO
: riflejunkie November 23, 2008, 12:58:15 PM
Well, as of this evening my 2008 NRA prone season is over, the Simmons 4X32 is toast.   Instantly the poi dropped 4 inches at 20 yds.  Maybe Simmons will fix it for me.  I picked up a Bushnell Sportsman 4-12X40 AO from a member at my gun club.  It's as new, but no box.  Do you guys think this scope will survive the springer?  I'm going to have to get higher rings to mount it.
Speaking of scopes, today was the last prone match and I always shoot with apertures.  Well, even thoiugh I shot reasonably well considering my lack of recent practice I am getting passed by other shooters who are opting for scopes.  I think it's time to make that plunge between now and March when the 2009 season begins.  That scope will need to be 20X or better.

Normal, are you using one of these on that 54?

No.  I have a Center Point on my Benjamin Super Streak and it takes a pounding without problems, but the ebay ones are on PCPs.  I shoot the 54 with the open sights (amazing gun!).

I had a new Sportsman 4-12x40 I put on my Walther Talon that the reticule and all internals fell apart after 6 shots. Even with a receipt bushnell wanted to charge for repairs, Never again. I'll stay with Leapers or Centerpoint.

Thanks for the heads up on that.  I won't risk using this one on a springer.  Lord knows I have plenty of 22's it will work on.  After seeing the size of a 40mm AO bell I think the 32is preferable unless I get a side focus.  Decisions, decisions.

Well, I broke down and ordered a Leapers 3-9X32 AO.  Should be here next week some time.  If I like it I'll consider a leapers for my prone match.

thanx for the heads up on the ebay auction. I had to get another center point at that price. It was still $10 cheaper then walmart even w/ shipping. Scope came in today. That was fast.

Hello, I think youll do very well with the leapers scope. Mine has been holding up to heavy recoil at the range ...I just ordered and recieved my second. Both are 4x16 .One is the swat scope the other has a front AO.I shoot out to 50 yards and for me,16 x works great.Oh and  the cross hairs are great for target work. Good luck with yours.
