: Theoben E-Type Standard vs. AA S410
: TCups November 19, 2008, 04:19:05 PM
Have been thinking about a PCP.  I have a Theoben Crusader with the ambi walnut stock that I really like.  I see that Theoben makes their E-Type in a standard version with what looks like a very similar stock design as the Crusader -- an ambi walnut Monte Carlo stock, and it has a reversible bolt handle.  The AA S410 comes LH or RH but has a RH side-lever option that looks good (I am right handed, but left eye dominant and can shoot either, but see better if I shoot LH).  Any of you out there have an E-Type?  Any comments or comparisons between the Theoben E-Type and the AA S410?  What should a first-time PCP purchaser know about these air rifles?

Thanks.

Tommy, both have good reviews and I do not think there would be enough difference in the performance of either Theoben E or the AA410. Unless you prefer to load one pellet at a time. You are always welcome to come buy and shoot my AA 410 Classic anytime to get a feel, right handed..:)

Gene:

Will do that soon.  I may be up that way this weekend.  How loud is the AA 410?

It is very quiet Tommy. You could shoot it in the house and the wife would not know..:)

Ever shot one of the thumbhole stocks?  Might have a deal on one, but w/ thumbhole stock.  Hmmm . . .

An AA S410 H Classic in a walnut thumbhole stock would be a sweet rig . I've not had any dealings with the Theobens , but they do have a loyal following . kirby

Well . . .  the AA410 Classic .22 w/ LH walnut thumbhole stock might just be under the tree for Christmas!  I have been very good this year, Santa Cuz.  Thanks for all your help and suggestions everyone, especially Joe.  As a loyal Cuz puppet, I am happy to be doing business with you and LIAG, again.  Thanks Joe.

Congrats on the choice . I know you'll love that rifle. Make sure you post plenty of pictures. BTW that picture of a thumbhole is an ERB sidelever. kirby

I think as far as first PCP's go you have jumped right from beginner into "big boy" status with either of those rigs.  I have never shot the Theobens, but as Gene said they do have a very loyal following.  The Air Arms guns are still in my opinion the best bang for your buck in PCP's, I have nothing bad to say about any of the ones I've shot, and since I am a Santa Cuz puppet myself I think Joe will be getting a call from me in the fairly near future too:)

Kirby:  Just grabbed the picture for the thumbhole stock.  I don't know if I was mistaken in the Classic vs. the ERB model specification.  I do know that Santa Cuz is quoting the full size (not carbine) rifle with side-lever cocking, multi-shot mag and the adjustable power option, so it may be the ERB rather than the Classic that Santa Cuz will be dropping down the chimney, along with a hard case, Hawke 50MM AO side wheel lighted mil dot scope and 80 cu ft tank w/ yolk and fill adaptor as a Christmas Package deal.  Ho Ho Ho
: Nice package .......

Yes I'm pretty sure it will be an ERB . You'll want the larger airtube with.22 cal. and adjustable power . Everybody, myself included when they have the option of adjustable power want to crank it up and see what it'll do. I had a S410H classic bolt action (before they discontinued them for the sidelever) in .22 cal.; and it would tear up my backstock I'd been shooting for 2 years without a problem with my .177 12fpe rifles. If I have it correct the Classic is only available now in a bolt action 12fpe non-adjustable version . The thumbhole stock can be had on any of the rifles available for an additional fee. The 410 sidelever is only available in a high powered version here in the USA . Over in the mother country , they have what is named a S510SL which is a 12fpe sidelever version with the shrouded barrel. Shrouded barrels had only been made for the US before. Shrouded barrels were not necessary over there because they have other options. kirby
