: Reattach scope rail on XS-B21
: Lerchy November 26, 2008, 06:40:31 AM
Hello Guys any ideas on reattaching a scope rail. Should I weld, silver solder, or epoxy, and must I disassemble first?

Did you remove it, or did it remove itself?

It removed itself. Heard it was a problem on early model of the B21.
: I'd be tempted to silver-solder or MIG it...

...assuming it's a steel rail. I think epoxy might eventually let go, although a more flexible adhesive (like Goop) might work.

Bronze it...put a thin layer of bronze on the rail clamp it in place on gun then heat.
Take it to a sheet metal shop and have it spot welded.
Drill 8mm holes in the rail then plug weld it though the holes "no visable welds"

Just make sure the welds are away from the working part of the cyclinder.

... that the piston and seal fit into. The seal never makes contact with the outer tube. But the back of the piston probably will, so anything that stands proud of the inner surface of that tube will have to be knocked down so that it doesn't gouge the piston. But there's no need to worry about sealing, which is a different kettle o' fish.

Bronze brazing would certainly work, but that involves putting a lot of heat into the tube. Not sure how that'd effect the parkerized finish.
