It's supposed to be non-flammable, which oughta mean that it will not diesel, even if it gets in front of the seal.

Sounds like it could be Boiler chain grate grease
under a diffrent name. if it is it is very tacky & thick.
May be worth a try as a replacement to thick tar stuff
I bet its had millon more dollars spent on it develapment
than tar has.

It's NLGI Grade #1, which is a medium-bodies grease. Spring tar is Grade 2.5-3
