As I mentioned in my first post The barrel felt very rough pushing a pellet through by hand so I decided to attack the barrel to try and solve my flyer problem. I scrubbed it good with a nylon brush and Goo Gone then cleaned it with patches. Then I used patches with a little light oil and rolled in silicon carbide powder(Brownells). Another good cleaning with JB bore paste and finished with Goo Gone until clean and dry. Still slight roughness but about 90% gone. Flyer problem gone! Now I can stay in about an inch at 15yd with no flyers. Not a bug buster but progress and I'm doing this out of the same tin of pellets plus a different one. This was definitely not an out of the box shooter but with some smoothing of the firing cycle and working on my hold we may get there. I may even try some glass bedding to make the whole assembly more rigid and less sensitive to screw tension. Nothing to lose! It works for powder burners. Only difference is the propellant.

(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif)Did you check the crown? My Gamo Big Cat had a similar problem,a flyer every once in awhile, one in eight pellets down the barrel, I used my Dremel tool and a tapered cone abrasive bit and grinded down the end of the barrel to creat a crown. From that point on it grouped 5/8 inches at 10m every five pellets. Not bad, but that's the best for my eyeballs My eyes are 20/40 corrected vision.

: I assumed you used 600 grit?

I'd think the other stuff would be too coarse.

You might have some luck finishing with JB's Non-Embedding Bore Paste - I believe that's a very mild abrasive, it might be finer than what you've used so far.

No visable problem with the crown and it passes the Q-tip test but since the rifling doesn't come all the way to the muzzle I'm not sure how much the crown would affect accuracy.

This is continued from the old thread?  What kind of pellets are you shooting and what ones have you tried?

This is a continuation. The pellet choices around here are not great. I started with Cr pointed hunting pellets which did not shoot well and still don't.Then Beeman Bear Cubs which did not shoot any better but since working on the barrel they shoot good with no flyers. Also CP magnum heavy which I did not try before but they shoot as good as the Beemans. As I said above now I'm staying in an inch at 15yd with no flyers which is not great but an improvement. I picked up a CR 2240 this week and I can do that with open sights. I should be in a dime at that distance.
