: SNOW!!!!!!!
: shadow December 02, 2008, 06:24:10 AM
has been coming down steady for the last couple days and with it wind which doesn't help when trying to lock onto a critter.:( Today the wind let up and with over five inches of fresh snow I was ready to get out and get some hunting in. With all the snow around the decision was made to Pull out the Powerline and put her to work once again. My gear was loaded and I was off to Nut City since I had setup several natural blind's awhile back I planed on holding up in one of them and let the Squirrel's do the legwork for a change. I arrived and was greeted by the resident who was shoveling his drive so I grabbed the extra snow shovel and together we made short work of it. All warmed up now :) we chatted for a moment and then I was off to thin the population a little more. I slowly made my way through the snow and into the wood's, it was very peaceful and what a beautiful sight to see everything dressed in white, just love Ma Nature. I stopped and took in the sight's and scanned the tree's for movement, there were several Squirrels moving around back and in the vicinity of one of my blinds so I weaved my way through the tree's and after several minute's arrived at the back of my blind, it looked even better with snow on and around it so I slipped in and settled onto my stool. I had lost sight of them on my way to the blind but knew that they were moving about so it was just a waiting game and after about forty minutes I spotted a good sized one making it's way down the tree at about thirty yards out. I already had the Powerline laid out in front of me on my limb rest  so I just followed her with the scope and waited for her to take a break. She made her way to the bottom of the trunk and then onto the snow right into a perfect shooting lane. I watched as she started to dig for her stored nut stash, crosshair's waiting for that profile, she pop's up with a nut and stand's on her haunches. Perfect I thought so I popped off the safety, crosshairs locked on, Predator away. THWACK!!!! was the sound as the Predator finds it's mark followed by her going into a brake dance of death for only just a moment then gave up the ghost. I just relaxed a moment, reloaded just in case the other fella was still in the area but I knew better hehehe. I stepped back out of my blind and did a scan around me, nothing moving now so I made my way to my snow harvest which came to thirty three yard's and at 31degrees the blood coming from her was already freezing. The Predator nailed her in the sweetspot and exited out the other, love dem pellet's. I snagged her up and setup for some pic's with my winter baby and I also shot a couple pic's of my natural hide which work's great and hold's up to the weight of the snow which is a plus. Ed

Nice shot at 33yds Ed!  That Powerline has definitely proved to be a great hunting weapon!

Love that blind and winter camo job on the Powerline!  BTW, is there a chair behind the blind that you sit on?  Can't make it out..

Thanks fellow hunters, Dave some of my shooter's in my list are older pistolas like the 1600 which is a BB shooter. I pull em out of their felt lined wood case now and then to punch some paper, accurate but they just don't got the killing power that I need for critters. just collectibles that were giving to me from a friend and they work perfect. The Quest is in a state of tuning like a few others on my list like the 57. Guy's there is a stool in my blind, the view you see is from the front and side and the bottom of the shooting window comes up to my neck area, just see my head looking out but that's in camo too.

Looking sweet Ed. Those dark colored nutters don't have a chance with you in the snow. Then again they never have a chance with you. HEHE Nice shootin.

Beautiful pix Ed, the snow, the BT, the blind, and that custom design shooter. But you can keep them all except for the rifle,...I'll take it any day. LOL's!!!! Boy that rifle sure turned out great!! And the hard ware to match too. I'm glad you enjoy the snow, because it makes me hurt evertime I look at it. I'm too southern for that stuff. Gimme 99 degree weather!!!! Great story an account of your latest adventure. Stay warm up there, and keep that crock-pot stewing!!!!!! tjk

Thanks buddy and there's room for TWO!.:) I set it up extra wide in front just in case someone wanted to tag along but it's hard getting anyone out here with me this time of year lol. I have it setup so that any wind direction this time of year is not a cold factor when your inside. A limb and branch hut packed with outer layer of leaves and the snow makes for extra insulation. I don't really get cold, dress in layers with snow camo on top and a thermos of java and I'm good for hours.:) Ed

Thanks Garen, day temps  40degs for a high and night temps around 23degs, just checked it. I'm priming myself for some night hunts, been keeping tabs on night critter tracks in the snow and the last several day's the game trail's in the area's that I hunt are loading up with coon, possum and rabbit. Their getting real hungry and are forced to get out and forage for food and atlast I'm seeing bunny activity.:) Ed

Yup those guy's don't really blend in this white stuff Brent hehehe. Now that albino Nutter would really excel in this stuff, that would be a challenge hunt.:) Ed

40deg, snow crunch under feet….So tempting, but only if there is no wind. I hate a wind.
