: Crowning a barrel
: MIKE I December 06, 2008, 03:42:04 PM
Pushed some pellets through my RS-2 .22 barrel and have discovered that it coud use a re-crowning.  It leaves distinct marks on two places on the pellet, maybe .oo1-.002" deep.  the only significant resistance is at the muzzle end of the barrel.

This gun has only had 100-125 pellets shot through, will this situation break in?  Doesn't seem like lead pellets would do so.

How would you handle this?
I have heard of people using different methods, what is preferred?
How do you remove the front site from the barrel?

Thanks.

sounds like you need a recrown...i've heard if you get some 200 grit compound with 3/8" sling shot ammo, it'll work pretty good

It took some doing, but the front site came off with some heat and alot of pulling.  After that crowning the barrel was a breeze.  The next pellets I pushed through came out with nice rifling marks and nothing else.  Set up my 12' range in the garage and stacked one pellet after the next (when I did my part) for about a hundred rounds.  Can't wait to see if it is better down range now.  Thanks again everyone who shares there information and tips here.
