Sorry for starting a new thread on this but I thought it deserved it after reading the last thread on the subject.I too like to experiment and after reading about the Mystic lube I was curious if I could thicken it to a suitable level,And if I make one more purchase air-gun related my wife will leave me.LOL.
So I went to Tractor supply and bought some moly, powdered graphite, pine tar and Mystic jt-6.First thing I did was take a spoonful of mystic and started stirring in the powdered graphite it got thicker and blacker as I went.I kept putting graphite till it was as thick as roof tar,I think I could have kept going if I wanted to.Then I thought, I bet it's gritty, nope smooth as silk.Next test was to see if it would hold on under force,so I tied a sting to a spoon coated in this mix and spun it,didn't move.
Now that being said I'm not a tuner nor have I ever tuned a gun nor have I ever seen JM's spring tar for comparison.I bought a powerline 1000s to see if I could tame down and try my hand at a home tune, but I won't get to play with it for a few weeks. If someone would like to try this mix or wait for me to report back.Just thought I'd share. Now I have to buy a horse to use the pine tar on.lol.

Or you could buy some lye and some lard and start making your own pine tar soap.

Neat idea. I just finished the retune on my S1K with JM lubes. I was pleased to find the JT-6 still stuck to all of the parts. It was even still between the spring end and tophat. I like the slipperyness for sure, but it did not hold out as a spring dampening measure. Interested to see how your potion will work out.

Well I got a chance to lube tune my powerline 1000.I mixed up a batch of home brew tar for the spring. What I settled on was 1 part moly,1 part mystic jt-6 and 2 parts powdered graphite. The gun came out super in my limited experience, nice and smooth and no twang just a solid thunk.Time will tell how it holds up but I see any reason it won't.Thats the mix I game up with,I have plenty left over and can mix a lifetimes worth for 20 bucks. If anyone wants to try it,send me a PM with your address and I'll send you some for a better opinion.
