I am going to buy an FX, Daystate, or BSA air rifle soon. I am trying to make up my mind. All three have some good looking guns. What are some thoughts about Daystate and BSA PCP rifles. I never see them talked about here.
-
I have two BSA PCP rifles. I have an Ultra single shot in .177 and a Sportsman HV in .22. Both of my rifles use John Bowket's Mirco Movement Cocking action. Both of my rifles are typical BSA build quality, which means top of the heap. They are both extremely accurate; BSA builds it's own hammer forged barrels. Both of my BSA PCP rifles have been flawless in function and I have had no issues with any leaking. They both hold pressure very well in storage. The Sportsman HV uses the BSA 10 shot magazine system and it is quick and I have no function or feed problems with it. The BSA PCP rifles I have both use the same fill probe and it has been easy to use. I think the BSA PCP rifles represent a very good bargain in terms of what you get for the price.
Here is a photo of the BSA rifles I own. The Sportsman HV is on top, the Ultra in the middle and my Lightning XL on the bottom:

I was considering the super Ten MKIII, but have read that you should only use flat head pellets in it. What do you think about that?
-
I don't have a Super Ten, but my Sportsman HV uses exactly the same magazine as the S10. I use JSB Exact domes in mine with no feed problems at all. I don't recall having seen much on the S10 having pellet feed probs. As with any magazine fed air rifle, ensuring the pellet length is OK for the magazine and making sure the pellets are seated properly goes a long way to avoiding feed issues.

Peakchick, how quiet is your Lighting XL?
-
The Lightning XL is fairly quiet, for a springer, but not silent. My Ultra has the factory installed Full size SAS moderator on it and is probably the quietest air rifle I own. The Sportsman HV, unmoderated (as you see it in the pic I posted) was very loud for an air rifle, sounded about like a .22 short.

I've read alot of good things with FX, Daystate and BSA airguns. With the Daystate...I'm not sure if you can fill the air tanks WITHOUT taking them off....not sure of that though. In my thinking, repeated screwing on and off the tank will wear out the threads and seals eventually. Maybe some Daystate owners can chime in here......
Of the 3 brands you mentioned....I only own the BSA...a Scorpion T-10 in .22 So far I really like it....very accurate, quiet (Must be the bull barrel) and powerful...I think in the 28FPE range with 14.? grain pellets. I can get 40 powerful shots out of one 200BAR fill. I use a pump....about 110 strokes. So I can't really comment on the Daystate and FX. Although the FX Cyclone or Whisper is in my gunsights....might be my next PCP purchase.
Actually I've read here on GTA....that dome pellets are better for PCP repeaters with clips....apparently the breech seal(s) are inside the receiver (Not like a springer where you can see it).....and that pellets with an edge i.e wadcutter or a pointed pellet might ruin the seal after prolonged use of the bolt pushing the pellet in causing micro tears. I'm not sure of this also...need some airgun guru to really answer this.
Here's a pic of my .22 PCP's...a AA 410s carbine and the BSA Scorpion T-10.....the Scorpion is the longer one.
-
Which of your two are quieter? The BSA or the Air arms?
-
The BSA is quieter (Almost like someone spitting) and only have one power...high power, no hi-low-med knob....probably shoots faster than the AA 410s carbine since it`s longer. One day I`ll have to get a chrony to check out the fps of my airguns!!!!

I would get a Daystate for the only reasion
that every man and his dog has a BSA
-
Too late! UPS should bring me and my dog a BSA tomorrow!
-
Lucky man and dog. Wish I had a BSA coming in the mail. Congrats, and photos are a must.
-
Thanks for the congrats. I will see what I can do about the pictures. I guess if every man and his dog has one, I must'a made a good choice!

As far as BSA springers go my BSA Lightning has been the best springer out of the boxof probably 100springers that I have bought over the last 3 or 4 years..:) It is absolutly a Keeper hands down. And I am ready for a BSA Ultra multishot bull barrel .177 next..:) So I guess I will be a dog also.. hehe My FX Cyclone has been a wonderful experience as well. It is a bit louder than my AA410 classic. I assume the BSA Ultra bull barrel will be about as loud as my FX is. Any of the three or four air rifles mentioned in this thread are the cream of the crop as far as mid ranged priced PCP's and springers go...

Congrats onthe BSA, I have a lightning XL and I love it. Sold my R-9after buying it because it fit me so well I knew the Beeman would never leave the safe again. I would love to get an Ultra multi but would have to part with either my Talon SS , AA S200 or both in order to afford it and I cant decide if I'm ready to yet. I know if I pick one up I will have to have it!!
Good luck and enjoy it, will be looking forward to you review

Thanks for the good wishes. The scorpion was delivered last Friday. Beautiful gun! The yoke and hose are on back order. The scope was delivered yesterday and the scuba tank should be delivered today.
