: Preds rule for today!!!
: tjk December 21, 2008, 12:25:49 PM

Well my friends, it's been a while since I posted I thread on this gate, but I thought I'd share this weekends hunting experience with everyone. To start with, I spent Saturday at my GF's place re-arranging her furniture,....(thanks a bunch Bob,...she was really thrilled with the stuff)and hoping to get some BT's around the house. It was rainy, and every living creature was in shelter. So I got up this morning and started the hunt,....well wouldn't you know it, clear skies and WIND!!!!!! Uuuugh I thought to myself. Thinking ahead, I decided to bring my 'hopped-up' Sierra-Pro,....and after a litle deliberation at my house, I opted to pull the old Marksman 0035off the rack ( the one CDT and I reworked). I brought the Beeman Cro's, some RWS SD's,...thanks again Brent!!, and a few Preds. Both are sighted in at 20 yardswith Cro's. Some how the SP wasn't hitting on all cylinders,...or more likely it was me (Great thread on "a serious hunting/shooting question Johnny,...think that answered my questions!!!). But for some reason I couldn't miss with the 0035?!?!? We stayed in the house most of the day and played "sniper shooters". The closest shot was about 10 yards out a window, and I shattered its spine (Hit a bit higher, but I didn't compensate for the close range I guess?!?!? The next one was a solid 20 yards up a tree, and got a shot to the shoulder. It climbed for a second and then dropped like a rock!!! But the best shot was out the front door, and it had to be at least +35 yards if not 40!!!! My longest shot yet with this weapon!!!!Beth held the door, and I placed the cross-hairs on the BT's neck. Fired the shot and it hit in the same place as the 20 yarder!!! Ran up the tree, jumped to a branch, jumped to another and did a "cliff-dive" to the terra-firma!!!! I'd imagine it was a 50 foot drop. All these kills were with the Predator pellets, and with a trigger that is not the "best in the world"!!! Of all my air-rifles, this one never seems to let me down!!!! Didn't bother taking pix, but I did save the pellets, and boy did they look.....mangled!!! Thomas

PS When I got home tonight, I ran some test roundsthrough the SP and she was hitting the paper where I placed them,....I don't know, but I think her missing themark had to do alot with the speed of this rifle, and the varying degreeof angle when going for live game. The 0035 shoots in the mid to high600's, whereas the SP is probablycloser to the 800's?!?!?!? Still got three soaking in a brine bath!!!!tjk

Ooohhh gross,...Ha Ha Ha. How about some future culinary pix?!?!?!? I swear we NEED a 'recipe/cooking' gate on this forum!!!!!!!!

Good story.

Hmmm....we do need a recipe-cooking gate in here I think.

I know just the name for it.

The GTA Bar & Grill.

Nice shooting, Thomas.  Nothing like a bit of rainy day sniping from the comfort of the home.  Was the furniture you moved placing the couch in a strategic location so you could shoot without having to get up?  The weather front came through Columbia shortly after it hit you, I suspect.  Some heavy rain, then it cleared off a bit, but was definitely cooler and windy.  It got down to the mid 50's I think (burrrr).  Maybe some squirrel chili would hit the spot.
