: Is the Disco better in .22 Or .177?
: SAVAGESAM December 22, 2008, 02:45:55 AM
I want to buy my Son one of these one day. We will use this for both plinking AND hunting too. I lean toward the .177 for trajectory and economy of pellets (plinking) but lean toward the .22 for squirrels. What do you think?  All thoughts and opinions are welcome and Thank you in advance.

Hey Sam. Im kinda partial to my 22 Disco. 8)  You have a point about economy 177 pellets (very locally available also) only thing is,, the Disco is kinda powerfull for 8 gr. pellets :o  there goes the locally available ones :0  I recently had a chance to shoot "J",s 177 Disco.  nice,, shootin 10.5 gr. cp.,s. The 22 is a little more eficient (power wise).  (more ft. lbs.) I did like J,s 177 though.  Ya may want to shoot a PM to melloroadman (Marvin) or J (300n),, they both have 177 versions. Have fun either way,, Tim.

Sam my .177 is very accurate out to 50 yards . As Timmy said it likes 10.5 grain pellets or heaver to a degree . I put a 2250 spring in mine for the indoors this winter and put some Silver sting 8 grain pellets through it and it loved them . I have also shot those in my condor as you have seen and they were very accurate in it as well . If you get the right lighter pellet in the discovery I think it will work but getting them local might be a chore as well . The barrels are not choked and they need a tight fitting pellet in the chamber to do well . I am partial to the .177 caliber had thought about converting mine to .22 but quickly changed my mind . Do remember if you get the .177 and don't like it for around twenty dollars you can convert it to .22 . Marvin

with the 2280 spring are you still filling to 2000 PSI and running to 1000PSI, or have you defined a sweeter range?   I'm wondering if the lighter spring has enough strength to open the valve when the chamber is totally full.   Also, is it noticiblely quieter with the lighter spring?  Thanks.

I realy like my 22cal use it mainly for hunting it has never failed to drop what ever I shot at,it is definitely a squirrel killer for sure! But 22cal pellets are twice as much as 177cal but for hunting there worth it.

Hey thanks for all the insight guys. Marvin for around twenty dollars can I convert it either way? .177 to .22 or .22 to .177?  As far as the gun/power plant goes are they the same? Is it better to start off with one caliber and maybe switch to the other?

Sam it makes no difference . The only difference is the barrel and bolt and the bolt o ring . Marvin

Sam with Crosman if you don't already know it . All you have to do is phone in the part numbers and they do the rest . I hear they recently raised their prices but you now have the part numbers and you can get a price quote before you buy the rifle . Marvin
