This is my first post here guys and I'm glad to be here. I recently purchased a whisper .177 rifle and love shooting it. I have already emailed Gene about a turbo tune with trigger upgrade and plan on shippin git to him very soon. My question is about the velocity of the PBA pellets. They advertise these to shoot 1200 fps vs the 1000 fps of lead pellets. I am just questioning the validity of this. Any feedback is appreciated!

Hey cubbie, Welcome to the club. I just picked up my whisper from Gene last Saturday. He turbo tuned and triggered it for me. Money well SPENT! I asked Gene about the PBA pellets that came with the gun and he mentioned that they slam the internal mechanisms within the gun and not to shoot them... He told me to just stick to lead. There is also debate regarding accuracy rates at higher FPS (above 1000 fps) I picked up 1000 rounds of lead at Dicks sporting goods. It's the Gamo combo pack that comes with 2 types of pointed hunters, match grade, and domed pellets. 250 in each tin. I paid something like 9.99 for 1000 rounds. Cheap shooting IMO!
Gene chrony'd my whisper with several different lead pellets and it was hitting in that 950 range if I remember correctly.

I would shy away from using the PBA or the lead free ammo unless you plan on running them through a CO2, Pumper or PCP. Their just to lite and can be hard on the internals and I've never heard any great accuracy out of them. Just my opinion.

Your opinion is well put Ed. To lite a pellet or to heavy of pellet will kill the spring and seal on a whisper. Stay within 7 to 10gn range.

Thanks a lot guys... Great input!

They make excellent paper-weights!!!! LOL's tjk

Unfortunatley, you need a few thosand of them to be effective!! LOLEM!!

Yea I bought pba for my G1 and They make a loud crack when you shoot them from breaking the sound barrier, but they shoot all over the place. Like other said it is also bad for the internals. Stick to lead

This is also my first post. I'm wondering if the Whisper shooters could post their most accurate lead pellet. I'd like to see if there is a pattern or a favorite in the Whisper.

Hi cubbie99 and hyounker....welcome to the GTA forum and family.....great bunch of friendly and knowledgable guys and gals here.
I had posted these Whisper-.177 pellet stats somewhere in the forum; Gamo Match 7.5grain, Gamo Tomahawk 8.5gr, Crosman Wadcutter 7.9gr - all shot 7mm center to center at 10 meters. Next up were the; Crosman hunting (dome) 7.9gr, Crosman Copperhead Hyper Velocity (dome) 7.9gr, Crosman Premier hollow point 7.9gr and the H + N Diabolo Baracuda 10..65gr - all came in with 8mm c.t.c. RWS Superdomes 8.3gr - 12mm, Diabobo Master CZ ?gr - 13mm and finally the Daisy Precision Max waduutter ?gr - 18mm As you can see there's 7 brands/types that can get 1/3" groups at 10 meters.....don't know how they shoot further out though. All are shot off a modified bench rest in a 10 shot string. Hope this helps narrow down your pellet selection.....

gamo2hammerli,
That's exactly what I was looking for. I ordered a sampler from straightshooters.com. I'll compare it with your list and start there.
Thanks a bunch!
