OK guys just wondering what was your longest shot and kill and what kind of varment. Is there a QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER out the there.? Mine was a rabbit from 35yrds with my B3-F chinese air rifle and Gamo hunter pellets.

Hi Shadow and welcome to the forum,
On a recent squirrel hunt I got 2 tree rats at 40 yards with my GAMO Black Shadow Supreme .22
Jeff

NICE SHOOTING JEFF.! Just got a Gamo Shadow sport .177 scoped and lasered. Gun shoots great. Going to get one of those trick triggers from the TUNA MAN. Thanks for the welcome , this airgun site is fantastic. ED
-
I believe it was a 24 yard shot right between the ears (from behind) on a squirrel.
Shadow if you get a chance try the predator pellets in your shadow, I recently did and they group real tight out to 40yards.

PREDATOR pellets you say . I'll will run some through and give you a update. Thanks for the info.

I shoot Mynahs and Starlings at distances of 25-35 yards all the time. About 95% one shot kills
Proudest moments:
ibis ( http://www.dolejs.com/africa/animals/image/sacred_ibis_5.jpg ) @ 25 yards --- 1 SHOT KILL
starling @ 55 yards --- 1 SHOT KILL
I use a BSA Supersport (.177) with Gamo Pro Hunter pellets.
Hardly ever use any other pellets, they are the most accurate in my rifle, and I rather go for shot accurate placement than anything else.
-
42 yards with my Gamo Shadow 1000 and a predator pellet.
Hit a rabbit in the neck while in a prone shooting position (Me, not the rabbit). He ran half that distance towards me (confused and dying), sat down by a tree and died.
I measured it out later because I was so surprised when I realized how far away he was.
I moved mine up here to be with the cool guys. Didn't wanna be all alone... :)

It's nice that we can take small game with one shot with some yrds behind it. Shows one,s ability and were not all out here throwing lead about hoping something drops. Keep em coming guys, no man's land is out there

Back in about 1987 in WA State I popped a grackle out of the top of a huge alder tree in grandma's backyard at approx. 80 yds. with my trusty Crosman 766 American Classic rated at 765fps. I shot at it about 6-7 times and finally tagged it with a Crosman Copperhead.
I haven't topped that since, even with my old Sheridan Blue Streak, which is a killin' machine
My best pistol shots' so far were taken here in Colorado in 1992 when I first moved here from the military. I was messing around in the hills behind a Grade School with my new Crosman 1377. (I didn't know at the time it was illegal in the City limits)
I was working my way thru strange shrubs, cactuses and grasses etc. that I hadn't seen before whei I popped up near a Water Facility on top of the hill.
There were a couple of cotton tails eyeballin' me and I dropped to a kneeling position and dropped the near one at 39 paces with a headshot delivered by a Crosman Copperhead. I couldn't believe he just fell over! I had no idea they are so light-skinned.
The second was another 5 paces out and took it the same way. The reaction was the same. Bang/Flop!
I've also used a Crosman 1322 on pidgeons from 15-20 yds. offhand from my truck window with fair results but wouldn't do that again with that pistol. I was culling them from a commercial building in town (shame on me!)
It seemed to be at about it's power limit.
I suppose there are some that wouldn't believe me but someone wants to know......

mine was at about 40 yards and the crow was way up in the tree. I got my trusty crosman 766 tuned by Jeff Wolgast with a bsa 3-7X20 scope on it. nice clean headshot and the crow never knew what hit him.

Well there are some Quiglys out there :). Great shooting all. I've updated my gun collection,Shadow sport, CFX AND THE B3 is tuned up and back in action. Hunt pics a coming. Ed

Longest for me was a crow at 53yds using my old (now sold) R-1 in .177 using CPH's. Hit him in the head and he just dropped. I was surprised to find that the pellet went right through at that range.
Danny
-
Oh yeah, I forgot. I had a Weaver T-10 on the R-1 at the time, and I was shooting from a camoed (weeds, sticks, bugs, grass) prone position.

Mine was around 70 yards, unrepeatable LUCKY shot!
I was in a field with my brother-in law near his house and saw a rock dove perched on a telephone line about 70 yards away. He tells me "Betcha 10 bucks you can't hit it" I gave him a little smirk and shouldered my Remington Genesis with the 3-9 Mildot scopt it came with. Gauged the wind, held over about 5 inches, 2 to the right and let loose. Seemed like a little over a second (long enough to drop the rifle to my waist) later and the pidgeon dropped like a rock. We walked over and sure as hell, nice entry wound to the neck. Got me 10 bucks that day! My brother-in-law still talks about that shot!
-
Thats a heck of a shot. You didn't admit to him how much luck was involved did you?

HELL NO!!! hahahaha I just let him think it was all me!

Nice hail mary shot Sam, the airgun God was smiling down on you that day. But it sound's like you knew what you needed to do to make the shot at such a long distance, mission completed. Ed

Longest One Shot Kill? Let's see here now.......,
.....so many guns........,so many stories........,
Ah! O.K. here's my longest OSK with a SSP pistol:
It was just another warm and calm summer's day.
There I was, sittin' on the porch with a loaded airgun
(an M2k4 under a Daisy electronic red dot),
mindin' my own business, when all of a sudden from outta NOWHERE............
Pic of the Walmart P3 clone and the chipper:

(Distance-8', Pellet-Copperhead 7.9 Pointed)
Nothin' like $9 optics on a $16 air pistol.

Well I will give you two kill stories.
Granted I am a newbie to this forum and becuase of this some of you may find the following unbievable, but I swear that what you are about to
read is all true.
One background note for all you is that I am a hunter by nature. Killing tree rats and the occasionaly cotton tail out of my yard is what I do for
fun at home. During the regular hunting seasons in Wisconsin I also hunt deer, goose and ducks using only a 12 gauage shotgun.
So here are my short storys.
The first of my long shot kills was a cotton tail that decided to make my yard and a couple of surrounding yards his new home. Obviously
rabbits can not read squirel, because I am sure the squirrels have put up warning signs about venturing to far into these properties. Any how
this rabbit was seen hopping down the neigbhors driveway one evening (but not for long) while I was already out shooting at other critters.
So I decide what the heck, lets see what kind of range my Gamo Hunter has. Using the back step hand rail to steady the gun I let rip a crossman hollowpoint (my favorite rounds for the Gamo). A second later through the scope I see rabbit jump once and rollover never to move again.
On my way to pick up my kill I paced out the shot to be approx. 45 yards. The rabbit took the round near the base of the skull. From what I figure his neck was broken and all nerve functions were severed which explains why it did run very far.
The second long shot kill just this last weekend. I will tell you all right now that this was an extremely lucky shot, a marical shot, the airgun gods were smiling over me on this shot, ie. you get the picture.
It was a nice sun shinny saturday morning, the grass is still brown, the trees are still barrin and the birds are trying to find last years nest. Among natures little wonders were 3 squirrels, yes that is right count them 1, 2, 3. These are the first squirrels I have seen to even think of shooting at, and I did not think about for very long. I look at my daughter and say "get gun kid, there are critters to shoot at". While she get the gun I pick out the Diabola Exacts that were used to sight in my newly purchased RWS 350 magnum (thanks again daved). The kid and I meet up on the back porch were I remove the screen from one of the windows so I can set up the shot. I knew the gun was sited in for 30 yards and that this shot was more than twice the that. Yes I know that is a long shot, but this is the first squirrel siting of the year and I did not care how far away it was, I needed to shoot at something!
I site in a on a tree rat that just will not sit still while on the ground. Finally it ran up a tree an sat on large main branch of said tree, and it sat there long enough for to pull the trigger. What happened next surprised the kid and I, the squirrel jumped about two feet in the air. This is usually a good indication that you have hit your target. The squirrel missed the branch on the way back down to land on the ground instead. From there it ran to another tree climbed up said tree about three feet, stopped and then fell backwards onto the ground to never move again. "HOLY CRAP" I killed it. I only expected at most was to hit the tree and scare it. Being the responseble hunter that I am, I start walking to retrieve the first kill of the year.
Knowing this was a long shot I paced it out on my way. When I was done my first though was "no way did I just shoot that far". I paced out the distance two more times to be only off by 1/2 yard.
Ladies and Gents the final distance was 81 yards on a slite downhill slope. This is not a joke, I do have a witness to the entire event who was just as supprised as I was.
I do have some other very good stories that will be shared at a later date.

To all interested parties, look in my album to see pic's of the 81 yd. kill.

Good backyard hunting stories :) enjoyed them very much.
That 81yarder is certainly a heck of a shot, can't say I've ever taken anything that far away with a springer.
Look forward to your next posts............;)
Jeff
-
I agree with Jeff, that's a Quigly down under shot. Ed
-
I never said it wasn't accurate, just that I wasn't accurate with it :-)! Although I did nail a starling at almost 60 yards with that beast. Glad the 350's treating you right, Kevin, sounds like you two were made for each other. Looking forward to more of your exploits.

45 yards, daisy pump on a finch sitting on the side of a tree. It was just an instinct shot. Bam, the ifnch dropped and i went NO WAY!!!
-
And what exactly was your reason for shooting a finch? They're protected song birds, they're not pests or invaders like starlings and English sparrows. Apparently your "instinct" is to kill just to be killing. That's not hunting, and I for one am not impressed.
Dave
-
I was like 12 when i did it, and im not even sure it was a finch, but that doesnt matter. It might have been a sparrow. I knew at the time we had tons of them around.
-
I shot a pidgeon out of a tree and stepped it off at 51. Not sure how close that is to actual yardage. Equipment used was, bone stock Gamo Shadow Sport with the BSA 3-9x that came with it. Have since de-burred and tarred the spring as well as installed CDT's trigger. Gotta say Bob, since the installation of your trigger, I have had to re-learn to shoot my Shadow.

Rifle: HW97KL .20
Pellet: H&N FTT
I don't have a mildot sight on my HW97 and I don't even know how to dial in etc, but on Saturday, without making any adjustments, I took out pigeons at 20-50m. All 1 shot kills.
Best of all, I made a one shot kill on a Starling that was sitting on one of those ESCOM towers (see http://www.taprojects.co.za/images/new_towers_construction.jpg ) . The base of it was at least 60m away. Yes , I have 4 witnesses.
Btw, I'm getting my Hawke scope with mildots tomorrow!!!!

I think I hear him coming for ya.
