: I thought they'd all gone into hibernation....
: GoodOlRWS45 December 26, 2008, 04:42:46 PM
This hefty firball was sunning on a rock when I caught sight of him.  I got up to 35 yards before he started to get nervous.  I thought I'd lost him when he darted off the rock at my approach.  I got down on one knee and waited silently for about 2 minutes, when he poked his head out from beside the rock.  He just glared at me for what seemed like an eternity.  I knew that if I raised my rifle he'd bolt, so I just stayed there, motionless.  I guess he felt I wasn't a threat, so he climbed back on the rock and caught some more rays.  I proved him wrong.  I slowly raised my rifle, clicked off the safety, exhaled, squeezed the trigger.  He caught the .22 RWS Super H Point in the chest, and it exited just behind his left leg.  He jumped up on his hind legs, and fell over backward.  He rolled once and tried to crawl over to his hole about 4 feet away.  He didn't cover a foot before he expired.  He's got to be the biggest one I've ever shot.

Great shot with the RWS 350 magnum.  I guess they're hibernating when it's really cold....around here when it's abit warmer and sunny the nutters come back out.

Great shot on that ground squirrel.  He sure looks like a big one next your 350!  It must be hard to get the job done in open country like that - good work.
